What's the Buzz!: Queenright 🐝
What does this mean?: Simply put it means that the hive has a queen!
Don't all hives have queens?: Well, they should! But it is our job as beekeepers to make sure she is still there and laying eggs.
Why would a hive be without a queen?: She may have passed, gone with her swarm, or may not have made it back home from her mating flight.
What you see in the first two pictures is called "capped brood". (Refer to stages 3 and 4 in the third photo). When confirming that a hive is Queenright, we must look for stages 2-4 of the larva lifecycle. This tells us that the Queen is still hard at work laying eggs.
Fun Fact: Queen Bees lay up to 2,000 eggs per day!
