Empathy is not the same as sympathy. Sympathy is when we feel bad for a person. Empathy starts with listening, really hearing what others feel. When we offer empathy to someone we quite literally feel for them. We speak in such a way as to validate their emotions, conveying compassion with our words.

Empathy is actively listening. We can help others with loneliness, fear, and shame, having concern for their wellbeing both mentally and physically. We can bless someone with our words of compassion, sharing in their emotions and helping them heal.

Can you think of a person in your life that you can truly share you’re raw, honest feelings with? What a blessing! I imagine there is someone in your world that needs your listening, caring heart. Your best is enough.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know when it will be too late. Ralph Waldo Emerson

I read recently that one of the reasons deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall, is so they can handle the weight of all the snow and extra moisture in the winter. If, for whatever reason, the trees experience a snowfall before they have had the chance to shed their leaves, their branches will often break off from carrying too much weight.

This random fact stuck with me. It reminded me that we just cannot carry it all at once. We are not meant to. We have to be able to let go. Let go of fears and disappointments. Of expectations and the battles that we believe only we can fight. That can be so hard.

Like the trees, we too, are capable of breaking when the weight becomes too much to bear. So many of us are carrying so much weight and heaviness. I just want to remind you that you are not alone, so many of us feel it too, that moving through life can feel really hard sometimes. When hopes are dashed and disappointment rises up your best is still enough.

Look well into thyself; there is a source of strength which will always spring up if thou wilt always look. Marcus Aurelius

Holidays often serve as markers in our lives. Seasons changing, memories of previous years and reflection on what and why we celebrate. At its core, celebrating the 4th of July is about commemorating the birth of the United States of America as a country. The day we declared independence from Great Britain, adopted the Declaration of Independence, and affirmed our intention to be a self-governing nation. Sometimes in the midst of the summer fun, we forget this deeper meaning.

When we reflect on who we are as a country, a core component of our identity centers on the freedoms we enjoy and the sacrifices made to get them. That is especially sweet when contrasted with the lack of freedoms so many citizens of other countries do not have.

•We have the freedom to live where we want

•We have the freedom to choose our own vocation and how we want to use our time

•We have the freedom to speak our minds

•We have the freedom to choose our religious beliefs

I encourage you to take some time over the holiday, when you gather with family and friends, to reflect and be grateful for the good things in your life. Bbq parties and fireworks are wonderful but our freedoms are a gift from God. Celebrate this 4TH of July with gratitude for all we have been blessed with.

This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave. Elmer Davis

Searching for life’s big secrets is frustrating. There isn’t a single one of us who has all the answers. The good news is you don’t need to have all the answers. You really don’t need to have any of the answers.

This life is about trying, failing and growing. Achieving the necessary skills through struggles and failures to find the solution to the situation. Each time you stubble you gain wisdom. When there is another hill to climb these lessons will guide your next decision. Only this time you are better prepared.

The longer you repeat this the narrower your margin for error becomes. The better you get. The more you succeed. It is not about having the answers now. It’s about walking the next step. Chin up and keep going.

Perfection is not attainable. But if we chase perfection we can catch excellence. Vince Lombardi

Studies show that personality traits such as optimism and pessimism can affect many areas of health and well-being. When things are difficult or seem to take a turn for the worse, our reaction tends to be negative. This puts us in an anxious place that can often spiral into more negativity.

We could show gratitude and appreciation to difficult people, perceived upheaval and really just everyday life. Positive thinking doesn't mean that we ignore life's less pleasant situations. It means that we approach unpleasantness in a more positive and productive way.

Search for the blessings and find things to be thankful and grateful for. See where our lives are lacking and do the work to adjust and overcome. We have a choice everyday to be truly, whole heartedly grateful and appreciative, come what may.

This life is too short to let it be ruined by circumstances, external forces or other people. The choice is ours. Choose wisely, choose grateful, choose happy, choose joy.

A positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you. Joyce Meyer

Sometimes life is just hard.
Somedays we try our best and it doesn’t seem like enough.
Sometimes the struggle is real.
Somedays we mean to help but only seem to hurt.
Sometimes you make mistakes.
Somedays we question all we are doing.

We are human... each day we try, we will grow. It won’t be perfect every time but, there is always GRACE!

Keep Going
Stay Strong
Keep Trying
Keep Pushing Forward
You got this!

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I'll try again tomorrow. Mary Anne Radmacher

Winning is not a destination it is an event that you try to replicate repeatedly throughout your day. Win the small battles, make sure to do all of the little task that you are resisting today. Repeat tomorrow, and every day moving forward. That is when you start to see the big wins materialize.

Winning is rare for some because they have not created positive habits in the details of their lives. They compare their lives, just seeing other people's success. Not understanding the process of creating those big wins. Big rewards come by winning the small battles day in and day out.

Win more days than you lose in a week, you win the week. Conquer most of the weeks in a month and you have won the month. Overcome enough months you win the year. Win enough years your life will reflect the goals you have achieved. Your best is enough.

When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too. Paulo Coelho

This is a reminder to make today, and everyday, count. Time flies. We have all said it a time or two right? It’s amazing how fast life passes by when we are living from day to day. It is rather unexpected when we are just moving along and the unfortunate occurs and life changes. Often we wait to start major things in life, I’ll do “it” when I’m stronger, healthier, richer, more established. We want perfect timing before we start whatever that is. We wait with the promise of tomorrow when it’s not really a promise at all.

Each day we receive is a gift and to show appreciation we need to live our lives to the fullest. Love the people that matter to us most, fearlessly and fiercely, knowing we have so much to lose if anything happens to them. Stop waiting for special occasions to wear that outfit, don’t wait to make amends, use the good stuff, try that adventure.

All we are promised is the now. Never the tomorrow...Make these moments matter

Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. Bill Keane

I am not a fan of dietary detoxes, programs that focus on quick fix weight loss. So many teas, potions, pills, elixirs...you name it. There is really no magic wand out there. That being said, there is more in our lives we can and should detox from.

Our self-doubt, relinquishing our precious time to things that don’t really matter, not making time for our wellbeing, not honoring boundaries, staying stuck in overwhelming emotions when the going gets tough, worry, resentment.

We can detox from the lack of belief in ourselves. Don’t let life happen to you. Let’s decide today that we will cleanse the areas of our lives that are holding us back from making life happen for us. Your best is enough.

It is a shame for a person to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which their body is capable. Socrates

We never know what’s happening in someone else’s life. Our outsides often don’t reflect our inside burdens. Being good to people is a wonderful legacy to leave behind

Give people the benefit of the doubt when possible. Are they doing big things? Spread their message.
Listen to them. Really listen.
Celebrate their victories.
Be there when failure happens. Help them grow don’t try to fix.
Encourage them in their struggles.
Remind them how important they are.

You never know what a little support can do in someone else’s life. These days we all need to be there for each other as much as we can. When we are generous with our support of other people, it may just come back to us when we need it the most. Your best is enough.

Everyone can experience the joy and blessing of generosity; because everyone has something to give. Jan Grace
