Heart disease is still the #1 cause of death in America, yet many people are told their cholesterol is “fine” based on outdated or incomplete testing.

In my practice, I take a more advanced and proactive approach to cardiovascular health. Along with traditional lipid panels, I often look at markers like ApoB and Lp(a), which can provide a much clearer picture of cardiovascular risk and inflammation. These markers help identify hidden risk long before a major event happens.

I also use tools like Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) imaging to better understand plaque burden and guide prevention strategies. Prevention matters. Early detection matters.

Functional medicine allows us to look deeper at the root causes of cardiovascular disease and metabolic dysfunction — inflammation, insulin resistance, nutrient deficiencies, stress, sleep, lifestyle, and genetics — instead of just chasing numbers.

Mother’s Day always reminds me just how grateful I am for the incredible women God has placed in my life.

I’m so thankful for my mom, for her love, prayers, wisdom, and the example of faith she’s been to me through the years.

And watching Alyssa be a mom to our kids is one of God’s greatest gifts to our family. Her patience, compassion, strength, and constant love reflect the heart of Christ every single day.

What if you’re not just “tired”…
What if your body is stuck in stress mode?

Most people don’t realize this, but your cortisol (your stress hormone) is supposed to follow a rhythm:
Morning → high (wake up)
Night → low (go to sleep)

But in today’s world?

It’s flipped.
• You can’t wake up
• You can’t wind down
• You feel exhausted but wired
• The weight won’t move

That’s not random. That’s dysregulated cortisol.

And when stress stays high long enough, your body literally starts prioritizing survival over everything else, stealing resources from your other hormones.

Sleep suffers.
Digestion suffers.
Hormones suffer.
You suffer.

Here’s the part most people skip though…
You can’t fix a stressed body with more doing.

You fix it by slowing down.

For me, that starts with getting quiet, reconnecting with God, and building everything else from that place.
