Cancer is a multifactorial disease, meaning it develops from a combination of many factors, not one single cause. Mutations can happen in the body without becoming cancer, but cancer may develop when several mutations build up over time and affect cell growth.
Cancer has existed for thousands of years and is sadly common in both humans and dogs. While factors like diet, pesticides, breed risk, secondhand smoke, or stress may influence overall risk, they do not mean you caused your dog’s cancer.
