Let’s Talk About Cellulitis

What is Cellulitis?
Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that affects the deeper layers of the skin and surrounding tissue. It often develops when bacteria enter through a cut, scrape, insect bite, or cracked skin. Without treatment, it can spread quickly.

Common Signs & Symptoms

* 🔴 Redness that spreads
* 🌡️ Warmth over the affected area
* 💥 Swelling
* 🤕 Pain or tenderness
* 🤒 Fever or chills
* ➡️ Red streaks extending from the area (seek medical care immediately)

Who Is at Higher Risk?

* Diabetes
* Poor circulation
* Weakened immune system
* Recent cuts, scrapes, or insect bites
* Chronic swelling (lymphedema)

Treatment

* ✔️ Prescription antibiotics
* ✔️ Elevate the affected limb when possible
* ✔️ Stay hydrated and rest
* ✔️ Complete the entire course of antibiotics, even if you feel better

When to Seek Medical Care

Don’t wait if you have:

* Increasing redness or swelling
* Severe pain
* Fever or chills
* Red streaking from the area
* Symptoms that are worsening or not improving

Early treatment can prevent serious complications. If you think you may have cellulitis, prompt evaluation and treatment are important.
