Happy CNA Week to the incredible HCAs of Shepherd's Cove Hospice!

Hospice care is about people. It is about showing up, being present, and making sure every person entrusted to us feels cared for, respected, and valued.

Our HCAs are often the ones sharing quiet conversations, offering encouragement on difficult days, celebrating small victories, and bringing a sense of normalcy when life feels anything but normal. They build relationships with patients and families that cannot be measured on a chart or documented in a note.

Their work requires skill, compassion, patience, and a willingness to walk alongside others during some of life's most sacred moments. It is work that matters, and it leaves a lasting impression on the families we serve.

"Our HCAs represent the very best of who we are," said CEO Stormy Hester. "They care for patients during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, always leading with compassion and treating every person with dignity and respect. I am incredibly grateful for their servant hearts, their dedication, and the comfort they bring to so many families."

To each of our HCAs, thank you for the countless ways you make a difference. Thank you for the trust you build, the comfort you provide, and the kindness you share so freely.

We are grateful for you this week and every week. 💜

At Shepherd’s Cove Hospice, our dedicated Facility Team works alongside nursing home and assisted living staff, physicians, and families to provide coordinated, compassionate care for residents and support for the people who care for them every day.

Through collaborative care planning, open communication, and an interdisciplinary approach, our goal is to help ensure each resident receives personalized care centered on comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Our nurses, CNAs, social workers, and chaplains partner closely with facility teams to provide an added layer of support, because no one should have to navigate complex end-of-life care alone.

Together, we create a supportive care environment for residents, families, and facility staff alike, bringing comfort, guidance, and peace of mind every step of the way.

This National Hospice Volunteer Week, we are honored to shine a light on someone who has shaped the very heart of our volunteer program for more than 30 years, Karen Denton.

Karen is more than our Volunteer Coordinator. She is a compassionate leader, a fierce advocate for others, and truly an angel to everyone around her. With a servant’s heart and a deep understanding of what families are walking through, she has built a volunteer program that many consider the gold standard, a “gold star” model of what hospice support can and should be.

Karen believes anyone can be a hospice volunteer. You do not have to fit a certain mold or have a specific background. You can bring your own gifts, your own talents, your own heart, and she will help you find the perfect place to serve. Under her leadership, volunteers are not just placed; they are valued, supported, and equipped to make a real difference.

She often reminds us, “You can’t love someone, live with someone, and not be affected by the sickness they are going through.” That truth is at the center of why volunteers matter so deeply. When families are carrying the emotional and physical weight of caring for someone they love, our volunteers step in with presence, compassion, and relief. They offer a listening ear, a gentle hand, and a moment to breathe. Because of them, families feel seen, supported, and not so alone.

Karen has created a program that extends comfort beyond clinical care. It is an extra layer of love, one that reaches into homes and hearts in ways that only human connection can.

We are so grateful for Karen, for her decades of faithful service, and for the volunteers she inspires every single day!
