What actually works for postpartum fat loss? It’s not what most advice tells you. 🤔
Here’s the truth: pregnancy and the fourth trimester often come with muscle loss, not just weight gain. So the real goal isn’t the number on the scale — it’s losing fat while protecting (or rebuilding) the muscle you have.
3 things that actually move the needle:
1️⃣ Protein at every meal — supports muscle repair and keeps you fuller longer, especially while breastfeeding.
2️⃣ Strength training 2-3x a week — cardio alone won’t rebuild what pregnancy and birth can take from your muscle mass. Start where you are and work up from there.
3️⃣ Eating enough — under-eating stalls fat loss and puts your body in a stressed state instead of a fat-releasing one. Hold onto fat, lose more muscle.
I’m living proof this works. I gained 35 lbs with my daughter and lost muscle along the way (it’s inevitable) — even with regular resistance training and enough protein. One year postpartum, doing exactly this, I lost 15 pounds of fat and gained 8 pounds of muscle.
