Swimmer's ear can sneak up fast this time of year. If your child has ear pain after a day in the pool, it could be more than just water stuck inside.

Watch for these signs:
👉 Ear pain or itching
👉 Swelling or redness around the ear
👉 Drainage or trouble hearing

Swimmer's ear needs prompt treatment to prevent infection from spreading. Catching it early makes recovery a lot faster and a lot less painful.

If your child is showing any of these signs, walk into Night Watch and let us take a look. Same day care, no appointment needed.

You grab the ice pack and press it straight onto your child's ankle. It feels like the right thing to do.

It is actually one of the most common mistakes we see after a sports injury.

Ice works, just not directly on the skin. Always wrap it in a cloth or towel first. 15 to 20 minutes on, at least 20 minutes off.

And here is something most parents do not know. A sprain and a fracture can feel exactly the same. In kids, growth plates are softer and more vulnerable than adult bone. What feels like a sprain can sometimes be a fracture. The only way to know is an X-ray.

If swelling is getting worse or your child cannot put weight on it, come in. We have X-ray on site at all three locations. Walk in anytime. No appointment needed.

If your child came home from a theme park or a long day outside with red, blotchy legs like this, do not panic. But do not ignore it either.

This is called Exercise Induced Vasculitis, also known as Disney Rash. It happens when kids walk or play outside for long periods in the heat. Small blood vessels in the lower legs become inflamed and show up as a red rash on the calves and shins, sometimes with swelling or mild itching.

It looks scary. In most cases it is not dangerous. But it should still be checked to rule out other causes.

Here is what to do at home while you head in.
👉 Cool the legs with a damp washcloth or ice pack
👉 Rest with legs elevated
👉 Apply gentle anti-itch cream if needed
👉 Keep them hydrated

Come in if the rash is spreading fast, your child has a fever, or you are just not sure. We see this every summer. We will tell you quickly whether it needs treatment or just rest.

Sexual health.

Here is what most men do not know. The majority of STIs in men have zero symptoms. No pain. Nothing unusual. Nothing that tells you something is there. You can feel completely fine and still have an active infection.

That means the only way to know your status is to get tested. Not when symptoms show up. Not someday. Now.

We know walking in feels like a big deal. It is not. It takes less than 30 minutes. It is completely private. No judgment from anyone on our team.

Night Watch Aldie offers confidential STI testing with same-day results. Walk in anytime. No appointment needed.

Take care of all of your health this month. Not just the parts that are easy to talk about.

Kids fall. That is just summer. And most cuts really do fine with cleaning and a bandage.

But there are some situations where waiting it out is the wrong call.

Here is what tells us a cut needs more than a bandage.
👉 Bleeding that does not slow down after 10 minutes of firm, steady pressure
👉 Longer than half an inch and the edges will not stay together on their own
👉 Deep or gaping wound where you can see tissue underneath
👉 Located on the face
👉 Something inside the wound you cannot remove safely at home

Here is what most parents do not know. There is a window. Most lacerations need to be closed within 6 to 8 hours of the injury. After that, the risk of infection increases and closure becomes more complicated.

Do not wait until the next morning hoping it looks better. If it meets any of the signs above, come in.

We handle lacerations on site at all three locations. No appointment needed. Walk in anytime.

Summer sports season is coming and every year without fail we see the same injuries walk through our doors.

Sprains, fractures, and concussions are the most common kid injuries this time of year. The tricky part is that a lot of them look the same at first. Swollen, painful, and hard to walk on could be a bad sprain or a small fracture. The only way to know for sure is an X-ray.

Here is what parents always underestimate.

Children have growth plates that do not behave the same way adult bones do. What looks and feels like a sprain can sometimes be a fracture. Catching it early makes a real difference in how well and how quickly they recover.

We have on-site X-ray at all three locations so you get real answers in one visit, not two. No appointment needed. No ER wait.

Come in and let us take a look.

Summer is almost here and sunscreen is about to become part of your daily routine again. But if you have a child under 2, there are some important things to know before you grab just any bottle off the shelf.

Here is what is safe and what to avoid.

What is safe for babies and toddlers under 2:

👉 Mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide are the safest option for young children. They sit on top of the skin rather than being absorbed and are less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions.

👉 Look for SPF 30 or higher with broad spectrum protection covering both UVA and UVB rays.

👉 Fragrance-free and dye-free formulas are always better for sensitive baby skin.

What to avoid for children under 2:
👉 Chemical sunscreens containing oxybenzone, avobenzone, octinoxate, or homosalate. These are absorbed into the skin and the FDA has flagged them as needing further safety testing, especially for young children.

👉 Spray sunscreens are not recommended for babies and toddlers. They are difficult to apply evenly and carry inhalation risk.

👉 Sunscreens with added insect repellent. These combination products are not recommended for young children.

For children 6 months and older, apply generously 20 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours or after swimming and sweating.

If your child develops a rash or skin reaction after sun exposure or sunscreen use, come in and let us take a look.

If you have been putting off getting tested, here is what you need to hear.

→ One. Most STIs have zero symptoms. You can feel completely fine and still have an active infection. There is no way to know without testing. None.

→ Two. The longer you wait the worse it gets. What is a quick easy treatment today can become a complicated long-term health issue if left untreated. Fertility problems. Increased health risks. Complications that did not have to happen.

→ Three. STI rates are actively rising in Northern Virginia right now. This is not a distant problem. It is happening in this community. Regular screening is not optional anymore. It is just good healthcare.

→ Four. It takes less than 30 minutes. Walk in. Brief private consultation. Quick test. Same day results. There is no long wait. No appointment needed. No complicated process. You have no excuses left.

→ Five. You could have a real answer today. Not tomorrow. Not next week. Today. Same day results mean you walk out knowing your status and knowing your next step.

How much longer are you going to wait?

Walk in today. No appointment needed. Complete privacy. Most insurance accepted.
