Back-to-school season is officially in full swing, and so are the coughs, fevers, sore throats, stomach bugs, and “the school nurse just called” moments. 😅

If your child comes home with more than homework, Night Watch Urgent Care is here to help. Walk in when you need us. No appointment needed. 💙

Does a fever always mean your child needs to stay home from school?

Short answer? Yes. But there is more to it than just the number.

A fever of 100.4°F or higher means stay home. Most schools require it and it is the right call. But the number alone does not tell the whole story. How your child looks and acts matters just as much. A child with a low grade fever who seems completely fine is a different situation than a child with no fever who looks terrible.

The rule that actually matters: fever free for a full 24 hours without medication before going back. Not 12 hours. Not as soon as it breaks. 24 full hours.

Come in to Night Watch if the fever has lasted more than 3 days, keeps coming back after going away, comes with a rash, or your child is under 3 months old. Those are the signs that need to be evaluated.

Not sure if your child is ready to go back? Walk in and let us take a look. No appointment needed.
