AphasiaAccess

AphasiaAccess We help speech-language pathologists deliver reimbursable, person-centered aphasia treatment.

People with aphasia struggle to navigate healthcare services and everyday life. AphasiaAccess grew out of the unmet needs of people living with aphasia as well as frustration with dwindling funding, constraints on services, and a desire for more meaningful outcomes for people with aphasia. Aphasia researchers, innovators, and program founders realized that the outcomes they have measured, and the

services they have provided, have profoundly improved how people with aphasia access lifeโ€™s interactions and activities. The publication of the Life Participation Approaches to Aphasia (LPAA) position paper formalized a new paradigm. Aphasia centers and innovative clinical programs around North America embrace LPAA values. AphasiaAccess represents a unique and innovative alliance of program leaders, healthcare providers, educators, and researchers who set as their priority an exchange of programming knowledge, research collaboration, and best practices in governance, fundraising, and promotion.

โœจ This LPAA Core Value spotlight is brought to you by Aphasia Access member Tyson Harmon. LPAA Core Value #3 states that "The Measures of Success Include Documented Life-Enhancement Changes.โ€ This core value challenges us to look beyond traditional measures of speech and language to ensure that our interventions are also improving quality of life and participation. We should consider whether our treatments are leading to meaningful positive changes in activity participation, emotional responses to communication challenges, and relationships.
