Participants at the Ron Chew Healthy Aging & Wellness Center, a program of International Community Health Services (ICHS), are benefiting from an intergenerational exchange with a local child development center. “One of the gentlemen in our program was not responding much before the children came to visit; we were worried he was depressed,” said recreational therapist Heidi Wesley. “The moment the children entered, his face lit up. He became active and engaged. Just a few minutes of happiness can have a big impact.”

At LIFE St. Joseph of the Pines, a program of Trinity Health PACE, chaplain Robert Wilson meets seniors where they are, taking time to learn what is important to them and offering support in whatever way feels most meaningful. Chaplaincy isn’t about having all the answers, he said. It’s about showing up, listening deeply, and being present in whatever moment a person is facing.

Susan Burke, 79, has no desire to leave the neighborhood that she’s always called home. Thanks to Harbor Health PACE, she doesn't have to. Harbor Health Services, Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary. “As we celebrate 30 years, we feel an even deeper commitment to our founding vision that older adults deserve to age with dignity, independence and comprehensive support in the communities they call home,” said Gretchen Reynard, senior vice president at Harbor Health Elder Service Plan.

Thanks to Harbor Health’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) on Morton Street, she can plan on staying put.

Franciscan Health is debuting a free speaker series to assist with the challenges associated with caring for an aging parent, spouse or loved one. The series of supportive conversations will provide caregivers with the information they need to enhance their loved one’s quality of life while managing the emotions that can accompany the role. During the first session on May 14, speakers from Franciscan Home Care and Franciscan Senior Health & Wellness PACE will discuss aging at home instead of in a nursing home.
