National PACE Association NPA works to advance the efforts of Programs of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE®) so older individuals can continue living in their community.

Among the more than 100 PACE programs nationwide is Community Care. “If I wasn’t here and didn’t have the family support I do, I would be in a nursing home,” says participant Ann K, who has quadriplegia due to multiple sclerosis. The PACE program and her husband's support have enabled her to enjoy the best of health care, to live at home, to take on important roles in her community, and to spend t

ime with people she enjoys. “We have ready access to doctors and nurses,” says Ann, who serves on the Community Care Board of Directors. “It is all-encompassing, excellent care. With Community Care, life is the very best it can be.”

HopeWest president and CEO Deneen Silva and chief clinical officer Lindsay Kampfer spoke with KVNF Mountain Grown Public Radio about hospice and challenged the idea that it is only for the very end. Cynthia Hines credited HopeWest with letting her know what to expect when her husband was in hospice – knowledge that changed everything, she said.

Death is a subject most of us avoid — until we can't. In this episode of Local Motion, host Brody Wilson talks with KVNF's own Cynthia Hines, the team at HopeWest, and North Fork death midwife Moriah Melin about what it really means to show up at the end of life.

Participants at the Ron Chew Healthy Aging & Wellness Center, a program of International Community Health Services (ICHS), are benefiting from an intergenerational exchange with a local child development center. “One of the gentlemen in our program was not responding much before the children came to visit; we were worried he was depressed,” said recreational therapist Heidi Wesley. “The moment the children entered, his face lit up. He became active and engaged. Just a few minutes of happiness can have a big impact.”

Little boots trod along the pavement. It’s one of those soggy Seattle spring days. The preschool-aged children walk in two formations resembling lines. They step through the sliding glass doors and look around. “We’re going on an adventure, and we are here!” exclaims a little voice. The boy,...

At LIFE St. Joseph of the Pines, a program of Trinity Health PACE, chaplain Robert Wilson meets seniors where they are, taking time to learn what is important to them and offering support in whatever way feels most meaningful. Chaplaincy isn’t about having all the answers, he said. It’s about showing up, listening deeply, and being present in whatever moment a person is facing.

Susan Burke, 79, has no desire to leave the neighborhood that she’s always called home. Thanks to Harbor Health PACE, she doesn't have to. Harbor Health Services, Inc. is celebrating its 30th anniversary. “As we celebrate 30 years, we feel an even deeper commitment to our founding vision that older adults deserve to age with dignity, independence and comprehensive support in the communities they call home,” said Gretchen Reynard, senior vice president at Harbor Health Elder Service Plan.

Thanks to Harbor Health’s Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) on Morton Street, she can plan on staying put.
