Windmill Project

Windmill Project Your local nonprofit connecting families that have children and adults with special needs through fun and inclusive events!

Families of children with special needs and disabilities--despite our income or education level, our race, culture or religion--hunger for information to help us understand and provide the best possible care for our child. We may feel confused, drained, discouraged and isolated. Since there is no way to really understand our challenges without going through them, The Windmill Project relies on fam

ily members to reach out to one another. We provide family members with information, develop peer networks between families and individuals for emotional support and encouragement. Our services include, but are not limited to support and networking groups, workshops/seminars, information and referral, electronic/print/video resources and fun family activities. Most services are provided at no cost to families; when minimal fees do apply, scholarship assistance is available.

Adaptive Swim Lessons, provided in partnership with Alomere Health, are designed and intended specifically for individuals with disabilities or special needs. These may include, but are not limited to, those with anxiety, developmental delay, trauma, motor or sensory issues, autism, or other physical disabilities. These adaptive swim lessons are individually tailored in a small group setting, with the purpose of providing a safe and supportive environment for learning to swim, improving swimming skills, and gaining water safety awareness. These specialized lessons are taught by pediatric physical therapists from Alomere Health, who have also achieved certification in the Swim Whisperers® approach from Swim Angelfish. Adaptive Swim Lessons are NOT formal physical therapy, but rather an opportunity for children with special needs to improve swimming skills and water safety with instruction from a specialty-trained provider.
