‼️ Carbon Monoxide Awareness ‼️

As temperatures drop and furnaces start running, remember that carbon monoxide (CO) is a silent killer. You can’t see it, smell it, or taste it!

Protect your family by installing and regularly testing CO detectors on every level of your home. Never run vehicles or generators in enclosed spaces. Also, be mindful of the potential for CO buildup in enclosed cabs on snow removal equipment, inside ice fishing huts or anywhere you’re trying to stay warm this winter.

Portable CO monitors are also available, many with clips or magnets for on-the-go use. In the video, you’ll see a portable monitor carried by one of our crew members alarming at CO levels above 50 ppm. While we don’t endorse any specific products, we encourage everyone to consider their risk of CO exposure and take appropriate precautions.

‼️ KNOW THE SYMPTOMS ‼️
• Headache
• Dizziness
• Nausea
• Weakness
• Confusion

If your CO alarm sounds, get everyone into fresh air immediately and call 911. Do not reenter until emergency personnel say it’s safe.

Stay warm, stay safe, and make sure your carbon monoxide detectors are working! ❤️

As Fire Prevention Week wraps up, we want to say a big THANK YOU to all of the fire departments across Kossuth County! ❤️🚒

These men and women are volunteers who choose to answer the call when their communities need them. Most people think of firefighters as the ones who respond to house fires, but the truth is, they do so much more.

These volunteers are some of the unsung heroes of EMS.

They’re the ones keeping us safe on the side of the road while we work accidents. They block traffic, secure dangerous vehicles, and cut away mangled metal so we can reach the people who need us. They witness some of the hardest parts of our job, yet rarely receive recognition for the role they play in helping us help others.

They’re also the ones we call when we need an extra set of hands. We couldn’t begin to count the number of times firefighters have helped us carry critically injured or ill patients out of basements, steep ditches, vehicles, fields, and countless other difficult places.

Rain, snow, freezing temperatures, 2 a.m., or right in the middle of work or family dinner — when we call for help, they show up, time and time again.

And that’s something we never want to take for granted.

From EMS to our partners in FIRE…

THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts. ❤️

Thank you for protecting us while we care for others. Thank you for the long nights, the difficult calls, and the sacrifices you and your families make. Thank you for being the people we can count on when a difficult situation requires more hands, more equipment, and more teamwork.

We couldn’t do what we do without you. 🚒🚑

Challenge Accepted!! ⭐️

We were tagged by our friends at Kossuth Regional Health Center to join in on the Star of Life Challenge.

Thankfully teamwork is one of our strengths because this was definitely more tricky than the hospital made it look!

We want to nominate West Hancock Ambulance Service and Forest City Ambulance Service 🙂

🚑 Meet the Staff Monday 🚑

This week, meet Jaimes, one of our AEMTs!

Jaimes got his start in EMS as a volunteer with Bancroft Ambulance in 2022 and quickly discovered a passion for helping people. As of 2026, he’s made healthcare a full-time career.

When he’s not on duty, you’ll probably find him spending time with his family, helping on the farm, golfing, hunting, fishing—or working on his newest hobby, building LEGO sets.

We’re glad to have Jaimes as part of our team serving our community!

🚑 Meet the Staff Monday! 🚑

We’re kicking off a new weekly series to help our community get to know the people behind Kossuth County EMS.

First up is Ellen! Ellen has been on our team since 2024. She joined as a new EMT, excelled as an AEMT and is now a new grad Paramedic!

Take a minute to learn a little more about one of the faces behind the uniform. 💙

Today marks 3 years since Officer Cram lost his life while serving our community.

Our thoughts continue to be with his wife, children and family as they continue to grieve the immeasurable loss of a husband, father, son and brother.

We hold space for his coworkers and friends who remember Officer Cram often and continue to share his stories. While he is gone, he is far from forgotten.

Congrats ELLEN!! 🎉

We want to publicly congratulate our newest Paramedic, Ellen!

Countless hours of hard work, class time, studying, and clinicals go into earning your Paramedic license. This is no small feat, and Ellen excelled throughout her program.

Ellen is now the 4th Paramedic on our crew, and we couldn’t be more proud of her!

Welcome back to school to all the students and teachers across Kossuth County!

With the start of school comes an important reminder for everyone sharing our roads..

When a school bus has its red lights flashing and stop arm extended 🛑STOP🛑 Do not pass the bus until the stop arm has been retracted and it is safe to proceed.

That stop sign isn’t a suggestion. It means a child may be getting on or off the bus and entering the roadway. A few seconds of patience behind the wheel can prevent a tragedy.

Fun fact: Ambulances are no exception to this rule! Even when responding to an emergency, we stop for school buses too!!

From all of us at Kossuth County EMS, welcome back, students! We hope you have a fun, successful, and most importantly, safe school year.
