Unfortunately, stories about unlicensed individuals practicing outside their scope are becoming an all-too-common reality in the med spa industry.

There are facilities across the U.S., including the Chicagoland area, that are owned or operated by individuals without medical licenses or appropriate clinical training. What is even more concerning is when individuals without medical education begin providing medical advice, recommending treatments, or making decisions that should be left to qualified healthcare professionals.

Consumers may be exposed to improperly sourced or inadequately regulated products, including “cheap” tox, fillers, hormones, and other injectables. The potential consequences can range from ineffective treatment to serious adverse events and complications.

Your health and safety should never be compromised to save a few dollars.

Know who is treating you. Ask about their credentials, training, licensing, the products being used, and who is ultimately responsible for your medical care.

When it comes to medical treatments, seek advice from a licensed, appropriately trained healthcare professional—and for complex medical decisions, a board-certified physician or appropriately credentialed advanced practice provider with relevant expertise.

Your face, your hormones, and your health are not the place to cut corners.
