NAHN-MI is proud to highlight the important work and leadership of Dr. Antonia M. Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN, a nationally recognized nurse researcher and Wayne State University alumna.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape health care, nurses have an essential role in ensuring that innovation advances care while protecting trust, ethics, equity, and the needs of the communities we serve.

On Thursday, October 1, Dr. Villarruel will present “Rewriting Care: AI, Ethics, and Equity in the Health Professions” as part of the Wayne State University College of Nursing’s 2026 Dr. Virginia Hill Rice Endowed Distinguished Lecture. Her presentation will explore the growing influence of AI on research, education, clinical decision-making, and patient care, while addressing critical issues such as bias, misinformation, accountability, and responsible use.

This conversation is especially relevant for nurses committed to advancing health equity and ensuring that emerging technologies strengthen—not widen—existing gaps in care.

We encourage our NAHN-MI members, nursing students, educators, clinicians, and community partners to attend and be part of this important discussion.

Today, the NAHN-Michigan Chapter was honored to once again stand alongside the MOTTEP Foundation during the Heart Walk, continuing a partnership that has now spanned three consecutive years.

As nurses, we know that improving health extends far beyond the bedside. Through our continued support of MOTTEP, we are helping raise awareness about heart health, organ and tissue donation, health equity, and the importance of educating and empowering our communities.

This partnership reflects what NAHN-MI is all about: serving others, building healthier communities, and making a meaningful impact through volunteerism and advocacy.

An engineering marvel. The Gordie Howe International Bridge officially opens this week, marking a historic new connection between the United States and Canada. Even more inspiring, its inaugural lighting display, Shimmer, symbolizes unity, partnership, and the shared waters that connect our two nations.

NAHN-Michigan is excited to be part of this milestone as we host our 5K Walk Across the Gordie Howe International Bridge this September in support of nursing scholarships. We can’t wait to bring our community together on this incredible landmark. Stay tuned for time and date.
