🙌🏻 nice to see an actual MD be bold enough to state what I have to tell parents all of the time…most pediatricians know 0 about breastfeeding, infant oral motor function, and oral restrictions. Dr. Ghaheri has been around and is one of the resources I share with parents when they need to see medical information on “ties” from an actual ENT. I see too many breastfeeding journeys cut short because of misinformation from pediatricians and mom’s broken hearted once they gain better understanding and realize it likely could have gone completely differently had they had the right support early on. 🙏🏻

Didn’t go down the…what am I clothing my kids in?rabbit hole until about this time last year with baby #4 when looking at her adorable stretchy bamboo clothes I thought hmm 🤔 these don’t really seem to breathe and are these really actually “organic” and good for her fibers? How do they turn bamboo into fabric anyway?

And sadly the conclusion I came to was the same as stated below…nope.🫣 It was about this time I traded the stretchy sleepers in for organic cotton after finding Upchoose a clothing “rental” service. I loved this brand immediately it was so soft, and now a year later I can say it’s one of the few that truly holds up!

Also a nerding out side note…the bodyworker in me loves that their sleepers don’t squash the toes the way they are designed. They leave ample room, and I can still have the baby footies I love ❤️ without causing the 👎🏻 tension in baby’s fascia! 🤓😝

We had a whirlwind, awe-filled, and inspiring 4-day weekend attending Visceral Manipulation I and continuing our journey of lifelong learning! We also ran into our wonderful mentor, Brigitte, who was a TA in the CranioSacral class next-door!

Thank you Dr. Collin for pinpointing so many of the same things I tell parents all of the time! What has become a “frequent occurrence” or “common” in our culture (a very unhealthy one I might add) does not = “normal” or “good health”. Ask any mama and her God given intuition was already telling her otherwise; it’s time we support that intuition and help her find answers and support for a better quality of life for her and little one!

Each time I bring Olivia (my now 15 month old who started seeing him at birth 🥰) to him he listens to what has been up and takes the time to individualize her adjustment and care! We need more amazing providers like this, thank you Social House Chiropractic! It truly takes a village!

Reminder children less than four months should be doing WELL with three main things 👇

Eating: latching + feeding, head control

Sleeping: every kid has a their own unique sleeping schedule, but consistency is key, and no… 30 minute stretches throughout the night aren’t it.

Pooping: healthy bowel movement patterns, and stools should be the norm 👉 and one p**p every 3 days isn’t it either.

So if you were told that this is just part of it and newborns are supposed to struggle… well that just isn’t true. Let’s evaporate this notion that your baby is supposed to be struggling 👊

Shared by another local IBCLC but had to repost as I’m sitting here nursing my own 12m old for the first of many times tonight as she’s working on cutting her first teeth! I have had one child so far out of 4 that for the most part naturally slept through the night or woke once a night. The others have continued to feed similarly to younger infants all throughout the night! This is something I once thought horrifying as a nanny specializing in sleep and would have it to be so exhausting and unsustainable, but I now cherish the snuggles (most nights 😉) and wake up refreshed as if I had never truly been woken for most of those “nibbles”. God designed us in a beautiful way that nursing puts momma and baby to sleep naturally and can also be done without either party being truly fully awake. 🥰

It is NORMAL for your baby to wake during the night to nurse. It is only a societal expectation that your baby “should be sleeping through the night.” 😒
Not only is night feeding normal but it is also important to development and breastfeeding, here’s why:
👉🏽 Moms make the most milk at night, so removing milk during this time is critical to milk supply. If milk stays stagnant in the breast it starts to trigger your milk production to slow down.
👉🏽Nighttime feed can deliver a lot of calories especially in older babies who are distracted eaters during the day.
👉🏽Beyond meeting the caloric needs of your baby feeding at night is meeting the emotional needs of your baby too. Remember breastmilk isn’t just nourishment it is also nurturing.
👉🏽Breastfeeding helps mothers and babies get to sleep faster, thank you oxytocin and cholecystokinin (CCK).😴
Co-sleeping, bed sharing, and the side lying breastfeeding position can all be very helpful to managing breastfeeding in the wee hours. Follow your instincts and do what works for you and your family.
