Happy Flag Day from all of us here at The Drug Store! 🇺🇸✨

Today, we join our community in honoring the Stars and Stripes—a symbol of freedom, resilience, and unity that binds us all together. Whether you are flying your flag high on the front porch or just reflecting on what it means to you, we hope you have a beautiful and proud day.

While many of us know the flag has 50 stars and 13 stripes, the story of how today came to be is pretty fascinating:

The Original Birthday (1777): On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress officially adopted the Stars and Stripes as the official flag of the United States.

The Design: They decreed that the flag have 13 stripes, alternating red and white, and a union of 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a "new constellation."

The Father of Flag Day: While the flag itself is old, the holiday we celebrate today was largely sparked by a 19-year-old schoolteacher named Bernard Cigrand in 1885. He placed a small flag in a bottle on his desk and had his students write essays about it. He spent decades campaigning for a national day of observance.

Making it Official: It wasn't until 1916 that President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation establishing Flag Day, and Congress finally made it an official national holiday in 1949.
