APAO strongly endorses the lawsuit filed by the American Academy of Physician Associates and the PA Education Association against the US Department of Education, challenging the final Reimagining and Improving Student Education rule ahead of its July 1 implementation date.

The RISE rule would place PA students in a lower graduate borrowing tier for federal student loans, limiting the annual amount to $20,500. This could create significant barriers for students who cannot self-fund their education.

APAO President Kerri Rall responded: “I fully support AAPA and PAEA in challenging the Department of Education’s misguided rule. This decision endangers the future of PA education and the healthcare workforce. It is essential that we provide aspiring PAs with the support they need to fulfill their crucial roles in patient care.”

APAO Advocacy Committee Chair Catherine Marcucci added: “We stand firmly beside our PA students, educators, and colleagues in supporting AAPA and PAEA’s efforts to protect equitable access to education and preserve the future of the PA profession. Restricting federal loan access threatens not only aspiring PAs, but also the patients and communities who depend on a strong, diverse, and accessible healthcare workforce.”

APAO stands with AAPA and PAEA in their efforts to protect access to PA education and preserve the future of the PA profession.
