The tiny piriformis muscle can be a literal pain in the a**e.
It is associated with the circulation sex/heart protector/pericardium meridian. Often the sciatic nerve is affected if there is a problem with this muscle which can create leg pain, numbness and tingling. This muscle often 'kicks off' when there are irritating issues in our lives.
Do you have something in your life which is a pain in the bum?

The Rhomboids draw the shoulder blade back towards the spine, and also lift the shoulders up to the ears. These muscles get tight for me if I am feeling the need to defend my position physically, emotionally or spiritually. The Rhomboids are associated with the Liver meridian from Traditional Chinese Acupuncture. If these muscles can't hold up under a muscle check then there could well be toxicity around, or if they are hypotonic (as mine often are) there could be an issue with welcoming change. There's a fab neurolymphatic point on the back one inch to the right of T5/T6 that with a good rub may bring some relief.

The Bladder channel of the Water element holds our ability to 'turn on the spin of a coin', to be light-footed, to be flexible, to 'lean in' to the flow that life has for us.
The erector spinae is not just one muscle, but a group of muscles and tendons which run more or less the length of the spine on the left and the right, from the sacrum or sacral region (the bony structure beneath your lower back [lumbar] vertebrae and between your hips/glutes) and hips to the base of the skull.
In kinesiology we may check the Sacrospinalis group of muscles to ascertain the balance in the Bladder acupuncture meridian which runs bilaterally from inside the eyes, over our heads, down our back (2 channels here) and down the legs to the end of the little toe. It is the longest of all 14 meridian pathways. It holds our stories and patterning from both nature and nurture, some might call this kharma or dharma.

In honour of Lammas, the first harvest...some info on the Earth Element meridians...

The Stomach meridian runs on both sides of the body, starting below the eye, running down to the jaw, up around the cheek and to the forehead then down beside the nose, over the torso, down the front of the legs and down to the end of the second toe. It’s peak time is 7am-9am, a time when physical breakfast and a grounded routine to start the day can really fuel us up. Anxiety, stress and worry create imbalance in the stomach (or are created by!). Feeling grounded, content, satisfied and resourced show this meridian is in balance.

The Spleen meridian runs on both sides of the body, starting at the outside of the big toe, up the inside leg, over the torso to the arm ‘crease’ and down the side of the body ending at the 9th rib. This meridian is all about distributing resources to where they are needed and eliminating toxicity. In TCM pancreas function is seen as part of this meridian function so balancing sweetness is a significant aspect. It’s peak time is 9am-11am, the time when we are often digesting our breakfast and our ‘to do’ list and breaking these down into manageable parts.

Good advice.

Good advice.

Happy Summer Fire element weekend, with nudges of golden Late Summer.
Here we are in the first harvest...wheat having been cut and taken away, chaff having been bailed. The farmers machines works out what is useful and how to utilise it...
The Small Intestine Meridian (of the Fire element) brings us the gift of discernment, of sorting the wheat from the chaff on every level, body, mind and spirit.
On a physical level our Small Intestines sort the food we feed ourselves into 'yes please' and 'no thanks' as it goes about the business of digestion. It's a binary process- a yes or a no, not a 'let me think' about it or a 'maybe'.
While the moon is still new, take some time to make some decisions about what serves you and what doesn't.
Question yourself. Be discerning, Be surprised Be excited ( as we are talking about fire) by your answers.
Enjoy.

Another fire element muscle today in honour of Summertime 🔥
The Sartorius muscle is the longest muscle in the human body. It is a long, thin, superficial muscle that runs down the length of the thigh.
It is associated with the Triple Warmer meridian, and therefore the Fire element.
Adrenal issues can show up as in the functioning of this muscle, and knee pain can be related to this muscle needing balancing.
Having enough/too much strength and passion are 'life metaphors' that might be worked with if this muscle comes up in a session.

Absolutely love this! ❤️

Summer is Fire element season. There are four meridians associated with Fire, here is info on the first two.
