We took some time to pause & reflect this weekend. We took a stroll through an Old Growth forest. It was a beautiful reminder of what happens when nature is allowed to be itself. Nothing added or removed. Nothing is wasted. Fallen trees nourish the soil, decay feeds new growth, roots communicate beneath the surface, & every living thing contributes to the whole. There is no rushing or forcing…just an intricate cycle of giving, receiving, releasing, & becoming. Life is the same. When we stop trying to control every part of the process & allow ourselves to move with what is natural, we discover that we, too, are nourished by the very things we once thought were falling apart. We found a turkey vulture feather on our way out. It felt very symbolic to me. I love turkey vultures so much. They serve an ecological cleansing function in nature. They are comfortable with things that we as humans often want to avoid or resist…death, decay, endings, impermanence. We can learn so much from them. Loss is often compost for growth. This entire month of August has felt like spiritual & emotional composting for me. This weekend was a wonderful reflection of that. I love how nature speaks to me when I take the time to listen.
