When we’re young, love often begins with attraction.
The butterflies.
The excitement.
The chemistry.
But as we grow older…
love becomes something much deeper.
It becomes patience.
It becomes gentleness.
It becomes softly holding someone’s hand when walking gets harder.
It’s 6:20 PM on a Saturday.
We technically closed at noon, but I stayed behind for inventory.
And tonight reminded me why I love what I do.
An elderly couple came to the door. Probably in their 80s. The door was locked, but the gentleman pulled on it because I think he really needed help.
So I opened it.
He gently held his wife’s hand, walked her in, and sat her down. He asked if we had compression socks because she’d been struggling with leg pain and cramping.
Anyone who has ever tried compression socks knows… they’re not easy to put on.
At first, she resisted.
“It’s not going to work.”
But he was so patient and loving.
“Let’s just try it, honey,” he told her softly. “Walk around a little bit. If you don’t like them, we won’t use them.”
So we carefully helped her try them on.
And within minutes… she adjusted to them. She even forgot they were there.
We also talked about magnesium glycinate and electrolytes to help support muscle cramps, especially on days when fatigue and low energy make things worse.
As they were leaving, he looked at me and said,
“I truly appreciate it. You are a lifesaver.”
Then he gave me one of those quiet nods that says more than words ever could.
My heart feels so full tonight.
Not because we sold compression socks.
It was the love between them.
Not flashy.
Not loud.
Just steady, faithful, gentle love.
Sometimes healing looks like:
slowing down,
sitting with someone,
helping them putting on compression socks,
and making them feel cared for.
Moments like this remind me why independent pharmacy matters, and I am so blessed to have an opportunity to help when they needed me.
