Trigger Warning

Training your child to be obedient makes them easier prey for predators. But no one wants to talk about that. We just want obedience because it’s convenient. Because it’s what the school, childcare, swim teacher and the soccer coach all expect. It makes everyone’s job easier… well you know who else’s job it makes easier? Predators. Obedience… at what cost? That’s what I think about… at what cost? There are other ways to parent that don’t focus on obedience as the main goal. One of these methods is Responsive Parenting.

Most people are not struggling because they are “weak” or “lazy”.

They are exhausted from the constant battle inside their own mind.

Thoughts like:

“I always mess things up”
“Nobody cares”
“If I fail once, I am a failure”
“Everything will go wrong”

These thinking patterns can quietly damage confidence, relationships, mental health and daily life - especially for children, teenagers and people living with anxiety, trauma or stress.

Once you learn to spot cognitive distortions, you start to realise how many people are fighting invisible battles every single day.

This is the kind of information every school, parent, professional and young person should understand.

Share this because someone you know may need to hear that their thoughts are not always facts.

Most people are not “overreacting”. They just do not yet understand what they are actually feeling.

What looks like anger can be shame.
What feels like anxiety can be fear of rejection.
What shows up as withdrawal can be loneliness.
What gets labelled as “too sensitive” is often someone feeling overwhelmed or not good enough.

Teenagers and adults are often expected to just “manage” emotions without ever being shown how to understand them. So feelings come out sideways - in conflict, shutdown, avoidance or self-doubt.

When you can name what is really going on underneath, everything starts to shift. Better conversations. Healthier relationships. More control over reactions.

Emotional awareness is not optional. It is a life skill most people were never taught.

Trauma-Informed Insight Series:
The Trauma-Informed Continuum

Trauma-informed practice is not a switch you flip. It’s a continuum.

We move from awareness… to understanding… to action… in the way we support children, students, families, and each other.

Every step matters. Every shift in mindset matters. And every relational, regulated response helps build safer spaces for healing and learning.

You can be doing well and still feel like everything is going wrong.

One small mistake turns into “I always mess up”.
One comment becomes “they must think badly of me”.
One bad day feels like a disaster.

This is how the mind can trick you. It fills in gaps, focuses on the negative, and convinces you it is all true. Overthinking, anxiety and low mood often start here.

But thoughts are not facts. They are patterns - and patterns can change.

Learning to notice these thinking traps is a powerful step towards feeling calmer, more in control, and kinder to yourself.

It's the one day that
you don't have to circle on the calendar,
you don’t forget this date.
It lives in you. 🖤

They don’t see it…
the conversations I still have with you.

In the car.
In the kitchen.
In the silence that gets too loud at night.

I still say your name
like you’re right here beside me.

Because to me…
you are.

This isn’t something I move on from.
This is something I carry
in every breath I take.

I am still your mom.
And I will love you
in every world that exists.
