🏈 The NFL is back tonight — and while the focus will be on what happens on the field, there’s another important part of the game worth talking about.

The NFL and NFLPA recently announced a new Behavioral Health Network designed to expand access to confidential mental health care for current and former players and their eligible dependents.

The network will provide access to behavioral health providers across every NFL market, along with support finding providers, scheduling appointments and navigating benefits. Covered outpatient services will have no charge or coinsurance and no limit on visits.

As NFL Vice President of Wellness & Clinical Services Dr. Nyaka NiiLampti shared:

“Our priority is to remove barriers to care and ensure that members of the NFL community can quickly identify and connect with trusted mental health providers.”

As another NFL season begins, it’s encouraging to see mental health being recognized as part of athlete health — not separate from it.

The game is back. And so is the conversation around taking care of the people who play it.

Athletes know who to call when something hurts physically.
They know who to ask when they’re struggling in class.
They know who to see when they’re sick.

Mental health deserves the same level of support.

Therapy can help athletes navigate:
• Performance anxiety
• Confidence & self-doubt
• Burnout
• Injury & recovery
• Team/coach dynamics
• Perfectionism
• Identity outside of sport
• Transitions after sports

You don’t have to wait until you’re struggling “enough” to ask for help. The mental side of the game matters, too.

Back to school can bring a LOT at once — new classes, new routines, new coaches, new teammates, and new expectations.

For athletes especially, it can be easy to fall into the mindset of “I need to perform.” But your mental health deserves just as much attention as your physical preparation.

This year, remember:
→ Rest is productive.
→ Asking for help is a strength.
→ Your performance does not define you.
→ You don’t have to figure everything out on day one.

Here’s to a school year where we take care of the whole person, not just the athlete.

This Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, we honor and remember the student-athletes whose lives were lost to su***de. 🤍 Behind every jersey, accomplishment, and statistic is a person with a life, a story, and a lasting impact on those around them.

May we continue to remind athletes that they are more than their performance and that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Check on your teammates, listen without judgment, and create space for honest conversations about mental health.

If you or someone you know is struggling or in crisis, call or text 988 for the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline. Help is available, and you don’t have to struggle alone.

“People see what we put on the court, but they don’t see the things that go behind it.”

Athletes are more than their performance. Behind every game, stat, and highlight is a person navigating pressure, emotions, challenges, and life beyond the sport.

As Napheesa Collier reminds us, it’s important to normalize that athletes have struggles too—and to recognize the strength it takes to navigate them.

Your mental health matters just as much as your physical performance.

We had a great time working with the Buffalo Jr. Sabres 16U team this week!

The team completed Modules 1 & 2, focusing on Why Mental Health Matters in Athletics and Emotional & Mental Agility. Together, we explored how mental health impacts performance, relationships, and overall well-being while building skills to navigate challenges both on and off the ice.

We’re looking forward to coming back for Modules 3 & 4 and continuing to build on these skills throughout the season! 🏒🧠

There’s a different kind of strength in knowing when to step away.

Victor Hedman, NHL captain and one of hockey’s most accomplished defensemen, made the decision to step away from the game and focus on his mental health. It wasn’t an easy decision—but it was the right one for him. (NHL)

For athletes, especially those in leadership roles, there can be so much pressure to push through, perform, and be there for everyone else.

But taking care of your mental health isn’t stepping away from your goals.

Sometimes, it’s what allows you to come back stronger, healthier, and more fully yourself.

You don’t have to wait until you’re completely burnt out to ask for help.

Mental health is part of athletic health. 🏒🧠
