When should you start talking to your child about internet safety, body safety, and puberty?

Earlier than you might think, but it doesn’t have to be one big conversation. In our latest blog, Amy Begnal, Ed.S., LMHC, NCC, shares age-appropriate guidance for children ages 4–10, along with some of our favorite resources for navigating body safety, online safety, privacy, and puberty.

The goal isn’t to tell young children everything. It’s to start building a foundation of safety, trust, and open communication—so they know what to do and who to turn to when something doesn’t feel right.

And remember one simple rule we love for younger kids: **Stop. Come get me.**

Research consistently shows that feeling understood and connected to others supports emotional well-being. Sometimes the most meaningful takeaway isn’t just the information you learn. It’s the realization that you’re not navigating this season of life by yourself.

That is the heart of M-Talk.

Join Amy Begnal, Clinical Director of Anacortes Psych & Wellness and THS Board Member, along with Andrea Hardesty, ARNP, AGNP-C, MSCP, Medical Director of Anacortes Health & Aesthetics, for an evening of evidence-based education, meaningful conversation, and genuine connection.

Together, we explore evidence-based information about menopause and women’s health while creating opportunities for conversation, connection, and community.

M-Talk is not therapy or a clinical support group. It is an educational community gathering where women can come together in an atmosphere of curiosity, encouragement, and mutual support.

***Please note: This will be our final monthly M-Talk gathering. Beginning this fall, we’ll be transitioning to a quarterly schedule so we can continue bringing women together in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable for our presenters. Future dates will be announced soon, and we hope you’ll join us for this month’s gathering!

At Anacortes Psych & Wellness, we’ve always believed that strong mental health care begins with a strong professional community.

For over a year and a half, we’ve been grateful to offer Thinks With Shrinks, a free monthly consultation group where local mental health professionals come together to connect, share ideas, learn from one another, and support each other through the unique challenges of our work.

Every clinician brings different experiences, specialties, and training to the table. By collaborating and consulting together, we continue to grow as professionals - and ultimately strengthen the care available to the individuals, couples, and families throughout our community.

Whether you’re looking for fresh perspectives, meaningful professional connection, or simply a supportive group of colleagues who understand the work you do, we’d love to have you join us.
