It’s fitting that Healthy Aging Month shares the calendar with National PACE Month, because supporting seniors to age well, at home and in their communities, is what PACE is all about.
Getting older isn’t just something that happens to us. It’s something we get to shape. The choices we make daily, like how we move, what we eat, who we spend time with, and how we rest, all add up over the years. And they matter more as we age.
This September, we celebrate both National Healthy Aging Month and PACE Month by sharing simple, real ways to support healthy aging at home. Healthy aging is worth supporting all year long.

September is National PACE Month!

PACE, or the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, was built on the idea that comprehensive, coordinated senior care can happen without moving someone out of the home they love. Today, over 200 PACE programs serve seniors in communities across the country.
All month, we’re celebrating what PACE makes possible: the participants and families who chose PACE by IIH across Fresno, Bakersfield, and Orange County, and the dedicated teams who show up to share our care every day.

If you’ve been curious about PACE, this is your month to learn more.

Thirty-six years ago this week, the Americans with Disabilities Act became law, and reshaped what was possible for millions of people.
For older adults living with disabilities, the ADA’s promise of access and independence is something we work to honor every day: wheelchair-accessible transportation to and from our centers, adaptive equipment at home, and support shaped around what each participant can do, not what they can’t.

Chronic disease is more common than many people realize, and managing it well takes more than one appointment or one solution. It takes consistent support, regular monitoring, and a care team that sees the whole person.

At PACE by IIH, participants receive coordinated care that brings together medical support, therapy, nutrition, behavioral health, and daily wellness services, so chronic conditions can be managed with dignity, compassion, and confidence.

The world had its eyes on the pitch this summer, and so did we! ⚽🏆

Our "Kickin' It" Spirit Week brought that same unified, global energy into our PACE by IIH centers across Fresno, Bakersfield, and Orange County, and we have to say, our staff was GOALS!

Each day, our team members dressed up in colors representing their favorite countries, jerseys from every corner of the map, and game day gear to celebrate the spirit of the world's game.

This is what culture, community, and a little friendly competition look like at PACE by IIH.

Care is stronger when it is shared.

Mental health is not only individual. It is shaped by connection, support, and the communities around us.

Community care means looking out for one another in everyday ways, from peer support and trusted community health workers to simply showing up for someone who needs support.

For many BIPOC communities, community care has long been a source of resilience, especially when systems have not always provided equal access to care, safety, or stability.

When people feel seen and supported, healing becomes less isolating.

Mental health support is not a sign of weakness. It is a form of care, strength, and self-advocacy.

For many BIPOC communities, mental health conversations can come with added layers of stigma, cultural expectations, generational beliefs, and mistrust rooted in real experiences with health care systems.

That is why it matters to challenge common myths:

💬 “I should be able to handle this on my own.”
Needing support makes someone human, not weak.

🧠 “Mental health struggles only affect certain communities.”
Mental health affects people across all backgrounds, cultures, and generations.

🤝 “Therapy means giving up community-based support.”
Mental health care can work alongside family, faith, cultural practices, and community care.

Healing does not have to look the same for everyone. What matters is creating space for honest conversations and culturally responsive support.

Independence means something here at PACE by IIH. It’s the freedom to age at home, in your own community, surrounded by the people you love.
This Independence Day, we’re celebrating the participants, families, and care teams who make that possible.
Wishing you and your loved ones a safe, joyful holiday.

A chronic condition doesn’t have to mean a smaller life.
With the right team behind them, participants continue to manage diabetes, heart disease, COPD, and more — while still tending their gardens, attending church, calling the grandkids, and staying in the home they love. That’s what holistic care looks like: treating illness without losing sight of the person.

July is Chronic Disease Awareness Month, and we’re proud to walk alongside the seniors we serve.

If you’ve ever worried about an aging parent or grandparent quietly carrying too much, you’re not alone. Older adults in communities of color are less likely to receive mental health care, even when they need it most.

Behavioral health is woven into every PACE by IIH care plan, so participants and their families don’t have to search for it separately. Culturally competent. Personalized. Always part of how we care for the whole person.
