The postpartum and newborn period can be one of the most challenging seasons in a parent’s life. The physical recovery, emotional adjustments, and demands of caring for a new baby can take a significant toll on your overall well-being. When you’re struggling, it becomes much harder to care for your baby and your family. That’s why having a strong support system is so important—and that’s where our doulas come in.

Our postpartum doulas specialize in supporting you through those early weeks after birth. We care deeply about your well-being while offering the knowledge, guidance, and experience to help you build confidence, find your rhythm, and experience more joy along the way.

While we are experts in newborn care, our role isn’t simply to care for your baby—it’s to care for you. We like to say that we’re here to metaphorically hold you. Sometimes that means literally holding your baby so you can shower, rest, eat a warm meal, or simply take a moment to care for yourself.

Our goal is to provide the support, education, and practical tools you need to feel empowered and thrive as you settle into life with your new baby. We nurture your mind, body, and spirit throughout your postpartum recovery, helping you build a strong foundation so that, over time, you won’t need us anymore.

Every family is different, which is why we offer a range of services and tailor our support to meet your unique needs, preferences, and goals. ❤️

Caring for families during their birth journey has been one of the greatest joys of my life. It truly is an honor to be with people as they go through one of the most pivotal times of their lives, meeting their baby. The power, strength, resilience, joy, love, and laughter in the birthing room is aw inspiring every time.

But life has shifted for me and my family this past year, and I’ve had to make the hard decision to step back from birth, and shift into more postpartum support services for the foreseeable future.

Luckily, I now work with an incredible team of doulas who make it possible to still offer birth support services. So instead of me (Hays) providing the birth support, it will be them, with me in the background offering guidance and input along the way.

So meet (from left to right) Clarice who will be doing birth and postpartum after January 2027, Kim who does postpartum, Hays (me) who is the owner of EBA and will be doing mostly postpartum, Christine who is our incredible backup doula, and Rebecca who does birth and postpartum!

We are so honored to be by your side and walk this journey with you ❤️

Health care in the United States is increasingly team-based, and doulas—who often provide emotional, physical, and educational support for patients during birth, the postpartum period, and beyond—are valuable members of many care teams.

ACOG’s new clinical guidance encourages ob-gyn collaboration with doulas and gives ob-gyns the tools they need to better understand a doula’s role. It also highlights the importance of stronger partnerships between clinicians and doulas, which can provide vital support across the lifespan—including during and after pregnancy—and can lead to better patient outcomes.

Every year I recertify as a doula, to confirm I am still practicing, and have the necessary skills to support laboring parents. I know what I’m doing! 😉

Did you have a C-section birth? If so, what were the circumstances of it?

Cesarean section, aka C-section, is a major surgical procedure used to deliver a baby through incisions made in the mothers abdomen and uterus, usually a horizontal cut low on the abdomen. It’s most often performed when a vaginal delivery is not possible or safe.

In Alaska in 2024 (the most recent data), 23.2% of live births were cesarean deliveries.

The rate of primary (it being someone’s first) cesarean deliveries was 16.4 per 100 live births.

The rate of VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) was 27.8 per 100 live births.

Between 2014-2024, the percent of live births delivered by Cesarean declined more than 2%!
