June 18th is International Picnic Day. Did you know Anchorage Parks and Recreation have more than 30 pavilions across parks in Anchorage? Get out, play and share a meal with the family this weekend to celebrate picnic day! Blankets, park benches and tables are all great places to enjoy Alaska’s summer and have a fun summer evening.

All Anchorage WIC clinics will be closed 6/19 in observance of Juneteenth, thank you for understanding.
Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States! Juneteenth celebrates a point in African American history that change the direction of our future and transcended generations and is a MUST for our community to remember.
The Juneteenth Anchorage Citywide Celebration will be marked with celebrations, guest speakers, entertainment, education, learning our history and family gatherings.

WIC families can attend at a discounted rate! You may purchase an individual $10 ticket online or purchase at the door then show your WIC card upon arrival!

Join us on Tuesday, June 16 for a Gruffalo Marionette Puppet Show and an evening of outdoor play. Wander the blooming orchard, visit the mud kitchen, enjoy Wild Scoops ice cream, and let the kids’ imaginations run wild.

🎭 Group tickets: $30�🎭 Individual tickets: $10

June brings summer’s sweetest chapter: strawberry season! 🍓Strawberries are the WIC-approved food of the month!

Strawberries are filled with antioxidants and vitamins, including vitamin C, which helps support your immune system! These berries can also improve both heart health and blood sugar, making them a great healthy snack. 🫶 Strawberries are also super versatile—try including them in smoothies, salads, desserts, or homemade jams!

We’re so excited for the warm, sunny months! ☀️As you and your family start enjoying the sun and spending more time outside, we want to remind you about the importance of sun protection! 🧴

Here are some helpful tips to keep your little ones safe in the sun this summer:

🌴Instead of sunscreen, keep babies 6 months and under in shaded areas and use sun-protective clothing items to protect their skin.
👒Utilize sun-protection accessories like sunhats and sunglasses.
🧴Use baby-safe sunscreens with mineral filters to prevent skin irritation.
🏖️Reapply! Make sure you take breaks in outdoor play to reset and reapply sunscreen, especially after swimming.
