A new CDC report looks at rates of HPV vaccination among adolescents and teens. About 78% of adolescents had received at least one dose of HPV vaccine, which protects against HPV-related cancers. About 63% of teens were up to date on HPV vaccination. These rates have remained stagnant for the past four years.

The report also found significantly lower HPV vaccination coverage among teens living in rural areas compared with those in urban areas. Researchers noted that factors including fewer well-child visits, lower vaccine acceptance and fewer clinician recommendations may contribute to these disparities.

HPV vaccination is a safe, effective way to protect children and adolescents from HPV infection that can lead to six types of cancers (cervical, vaginal, vulvar, a**l, pe**le and oropharyngeal) as well as hospitalization, disability and death. Anchorage Pediatric Group continues to trust the science behind vaccines and stands with AAP guidance in regard to the efficacy of vaccines and their suggested administration schedule.

This week’s announcement from federal officials instills unnecessary fear and uncertainty when it comes to childhood vaccines that have been thoroughly studied for decades. The AAP's childhood immunization schedule is thoroughly researched and reviewed, backed by years of scientific evidence showing vaccines' effectiveness at preventing serious illness in children.

Parents are encouraged to contact their pediatrician if they have any questions about vaccines – pediatricians are here to partner with parents, helping to make the best decisions for their children.

Anchorage Pediatric Group is excited to announce the addition of a new physician to our Group! Dr. Daniel Remillard will begin seeing patients in our clinic on 9/21/2026.

"From an early age, medicine captured my interest and sparked my enthusiasm. I’ve always enjoyed the mix of science and humanity that it offers, and I find practicing both preventative and diagnostic medicine very fulfilling.
Eagle River, Alaska, has always been my home. From early childhood and throughout my high school years, I played hockey at the McDonald Center and studied cello, participating in the Anchorage Youth Symphony. I attended Liberty University on an academic scholarship, graduating with honors in Biomedical Sciences and a minor in cello performance. I then returned to Eagle River to prepare for medical school and had the privilege of working as a medical assistant for Dr. Heath McAnally at his pain management practice. His mentorship, guidance, and encouragement helped inspire and motivate me toward my goal of practicing clinical medicine.
For medical school, I attended the WWAMI program through the University of Washington and UAA. During my 3rd year, I had the good fortune of doing my pediatric rotation at Providence Hospital with the Anchorage Pediatric Group (APG), specifically under the teaching of Dr. Willow Monterrosa. Pediatrics had always held a special attraction for me. However, my rotation with the APG team confirmed my choice of specialty. My 3-year pediatric residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Pennsylvania prepared me well for the varied challenges of pediatric medicine. In the summer of 2026, I returned to Alaska in joyful anticipation of joining the medical community, serving Alaska’s children and families.
My wife and I have been blessed with three wonderful little children (so far). In our free time we like to hike, ski, skate, camp, grill, bake bread, and change diapers. I look forward to echoing what Dr. Monterrosa has told me many times, “I have the greatest job in the world”."
