We are happy to introduce our newest GI doctor— Dr. Pratt!
He will be joining our team this October.

Dr. Pratt is originally from Southern California and went to college at the University of California, Berkeley where he obtained a bachelor’s of science in Bioengineering.   He then went to medical school at Tufts University in Boston where he obtained an MD and Masters of Public Health degree.  He did a pediatric residency in the Navy and then was a general pediatrician for 3 years before going back to GI training at Stanford University in California.

Immediately after training he moved to Anchorage, Alaska where he made his home and had his second child.  He was in GI practice in Alaska for 6 years before moving to Arizona to be nearer to family.  He is now a pediatric gastroenterologist at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago where he has been for 13 years seeing all manner of general GI patients, but he has a particular interest in Nutrition, especially in athletics, and Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

In his spare time, Dr. Pratt competes in triathlons (having now completed 4 Half-Ironmans), paints and enjoys cooking.  His two children have graduated college and are pursuing graduate education in medicine and he is very happily married to a former University of Alaska History professor.   They are now celebrating their 27th year of marriage.  He plans to be “partially retired” starting in October of this year. He will be commuting to Alaska part-time to join our team.

Give a 👋🏼 to Nurse Christi Elliott.

Christi Elliott was born in Anchorage, Alaska and is a lifelong Alaskan. She attended the University of Colorado, Boulder and earned her BSA. She then went on to nursing school at the University of San Francisco and earned her BSN before moving back to Alaska to pursue her career.

Christi worked at the Children’s Hospital at Providence for over 16 years and has a passion for the pediatric oncology population. She worked alongside the Oncology team for 10 years in the infusion center at Providence delivering chemo to her patients. Her enthusiasm for her patients and their families is why she is glad to be a part of the Alaska Pediatric Specialties team.

Dr. Brenda Wittman grew up in Memphis, Tennessee before earning her undergraduate degree from Emory University in Atlanta. She then went on to earn her medical and masters degrees from the University of Rochester in New York before completing her residency and fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital, also in Rochester. Dr. Wittman is double-board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology. She is the principal investigator for the Children’s Oncology Group clinical trials that allow children with cancer in Alaska to have access to cutting edge pediatric cancer research.

After working in Arizona for almost a decade, Dr. Wittman came to Anchorage in 2014 and began working with Providence Alaska Medical Center as a pediatric oncologist. Dr. Wittman is proud to be a founding member of Alaska Pediatric Oncology and looks forward to continuing to serve Alaska’s pediatric patients for many years to come.

Dr. Wittman spends her free time figure skating (indoors or outdoors), reading, doing puzzles, hiking, and spending time with her dog, Annie.

Insurance 101: Understanding Your EOB đź“„

Get a document from your insurance that says “Explanation of Benefits”? Don’t panic — it’s not a bill. 🚫

đź“‹ An EOB is a summary your insurance sends after we file a claim. It shows what was billed, what insurance paid, and what you may owe.

⚠️ Important: if you owe anything, a separate bill comes from our office. Compare the two, and call us if something doesn’t match.

💙 We’re always happy to help you make sense of it.

Laura Erickson was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and grew up mostly in the Midwest. She graduated from Minot State University in Minot, ND with her BSN in 2009. Aside from a quick year of adult nursing experience, she has worked in pediatrics and pediatric oncology from the start. Laura was given the opportunity to expand her skill set at PAMC where she joined the pediatric oncology team in the hospital. She is excited to keep learning more and caring for the pediatric oncology population here at Alaska Pediatric Specialties!

Laura loves to spend her time outdoors hiking and adventuring to new places in Alaska with her dog, Nuska. She loves everything about living in the mountains and can’t imagine living in the prairies of the Midwest again!

Drop a 👋🏼 to say hi to Laura!!
