Aging is real.

Pain isn’t always inevitable.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that pain is simply the price we pay for getting older.

In reality, pain as we get older is often a result of less movement and overall less focus on ourselves. Life is busy - there’s work, family, house chores and we push our workouts and rest to the side. Once people understand what’s actually driving their symptoms, most get better, no matter what their age.

Starting my own practice, gave me the freedom to build the kind of healthcare experience I wanted as both a clinician and a patient.

More time. More listening. More individualized care. Less fear. Less “because I said so”.

I don’t think healthcare has to feel rushed or confusing.

And I’m really proud that the body remedy reflects that.

You can do everything “right“ and still get injured.

You can strength train eat well get enough sleep warm-up recover work on your mobility and take care of your body… And sometimes you’re still going to tweak something get hurt or find yourself sidelined.

Total injury prevention is impossible.

But that doesn’t mean taking care of your body is pointless.

Fueling yourself well getting enough rest building strength recovering appropriately and consistently giving your body what it needs can improve your ability to adapt to stress tolerate load and recover when something does go wrong.

Think of it less as trying to build an injury, proof, body, and more as building a body that is prepared for the demands you put on it.

You don’t need to do everything perfectly. You just need to consistently pour into your body more than you take from it.

And when you do get injured, that’s not failure. It’s part of being humid. Your job then is to give your body the right environment in the right amount of challenge to help it to get back to doing what you love.

Can we stop acting like there is one perfect way to sit, stand, or hold your body all day?

Your posture isn’t a fixed position that you need to maintain perfectly from 9 to 5. Your body is designed to move, shift, adapt, and tolerate different positions.

That doesn’t mean posture is completely irrelevant. It means I care a lot more about how long you’re staying in one position, how often you’re moving, how much load your body is used to, and whether you have the strength and capacity to do what you’re asking it to do.

If you’ve been told your neck pain, back pain or headaches are simply because your posture is “bad“ there’s probably a little more to the story.

So instead of spending all day, trying to hold your shoulders back and sit up perfectly, try this:

Move more. Change positions. Build strength. Take breaks. And give your body some variety.

Your posture doesn’t need to be perfect. Your body just needs to be capable of handling your life.

Save this for the next time someone tells you to “fix your posture.”

I hear it all the time….

“I hit x age and everything fell apart.”

It doesn’t have to be that way and I can help!

I am all about being healthy and I love evidence-based care. But I don’t think being healthy means trying to optimize every single decision you make.

You can take care of yourself and still have dessert. You can miss a workout. You can have a terrible night’s sleep. You can have a week where everything goes sideways.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s having habits that are realistic enough to come back to again and again.

Science, sweat, & sanity. That’s more my speed.
