A Banana Is Fast Food. Let's Talk About Convenience.

People aren't necessarily less interested in healthy eating; practicality is becoming increasingly important.

Today's 5 min chat addresses that reality by showing how nutritious choices can fit into an ordinary, busy life rather than requiring ideal circumstances.

On October 7, the International Food Information Council released another installment of its 2026 Food & Health Survey. Earlier findings from that same survey revealed that, for the first time in its 21-year history, convenience (61%) outranked healthfulness (56%) as a factor influencing Americans' food decisions.

Your Nutrition Plan Doesn't Have to Look Impressive. It Has to Work.
It's pretty easy to follow a nutrition plan when everything goes according to schedule.

You've grocery shopped.
You've prepared your meals.
You have time to sit down and eat.

But what happens when Thursday shows up?
Work runs late. Appointments change. You're exhausted. Dinner plans fall apart.

Suddenly, that carefully designed nutrition plan doesn't seem so practical anymore.

Here's something I often encourage people to consider:

Instead of asking what the perfect nutrition plan looks like, ask what a realistic one looks like for YOU.

Maybe that means keeping a few easy meals available.
Maybe it means learning how to make reasonable choices when eating out.

Maybe it means recognizing that one meal doesn't determine the success of your entire week.
Personal growth isn't always about becoming more disciplined.

Sometimes it's about becoming more adaptable.
Learning what works for you, understanding your obstacles, and developing strategies that help you keep moving forward.

Because sustainable nutrition isn
't built around having perfect days.
It's built around knowing what to do when your days aren't perfect.

Breakfast doesn’t need to be complicated. 🍓🍌

This morning:
🥣 A little less than a full serving of yogurt — because this one is THICK.
🍓 About 125g of raspberries + banana.
🥄 About half a serving of zero-added-sugar granola.

Why weigh and measure it?

Not because every gram needs to be perfect. It’s because measuring once in a while keeps me aware of what a serving actually looks like and helps me make intentional choices instead of guessing.

Simple food. Plenty of fruit. A little crunch. Done.

Healthy habits don’t have to be complicated to be effective.

Fiber is having a moment.
Gut health.
Prebiotics.
Microbiome supplements.
Psyllium.
Functional sodas.
“Gut-friendly” everything.
I'm not saying those things are necessarily bad.
But whenever something starts trending in nutrition, I like to ask:
What are we actually trying to accomplish here?
In this case, sometimes the answer is remarkably ordinary:
Eat more plants.
Fruit. Vegetables. Beans. Whole grains. Nuts. Seeds.
Foods humans were eating long before “gut health” became a marketing category.
There's nothing wrong with learning something new or using a product that genuinely helps you.
But don't let the newest solution distract you from the behavior that does most of the work.
Trends change. Fundamentals are remarkably stubborn.
Fuel. Move. Grow.

Peptides are everywhere right now.

And while they may be the topic that started this conversation, this video really isn’t about peptides.

It’s about priorities.

In health and wellness, it’s incredibly easy to get distracted by the newest supplement, technology, treatment, protocol, or optimization strategy while overlooking the behaviors that form our foundation.

🥗 How are you eating? 😴 How are you sleeping? 🏋️ Are you strength training? ❤️ Are you developing your cardiovascular fitness? 🚶 Are you moving throughout your day? 🤝 Do you have connection and community? 🔁 And are you doing these things consistently?

As a health & wellness coach, I’m not here to give medical advice about peptides—or any other medical treatment. That belongs with appropriately qualified healthcare professionals.

But I will challenge you to ask:

Am I majoring in the minors?

Before worrying about optimizing the last 5%, how well are you taking care of the other 95%?

🎥 I unpack that idea in this quick 3½-minute video:

Be curious. Keep learning. But don’t underestimate the power of consistently doing the fundamentals well.

And if you're less interested in chasing the next health trend and more interested in creating sustainable behavior change, that's exactly what health coaching is designed to support. Send me a message if you'd like to talk about what that could look like for you.

Things plants understand better than we do…

There's a subtle connection back to old-school CrossFit methodology:

Constantly varied doesn’t mean random.

Growth requires consistency.

Consistency ≠ doing everything exactly the same.

Sometimes staying consistent requires adapting.

Protein matters. But protein isn’t the whole story.
We’ve gotten very good at reducing food to numbers.
30 grams of protein.
500 calories.
10 grams of fiber.
Zero sugar.
Those numbers can be useful. I use them too.
But a food—or an entire way of eating—is more than the number we’ve decided to track.
What else is on the plate?
Fruits and vegetables? Fiber? Healthy fats? Micronutrients? Foods you actually enjoy? Enough food to support your training and your life?
And maybe most importantly: Is this a way of eating you can actually sustain?
Protein is important. So is the rest of the nutritional picture.
Health rarely comes down to winning one number.
Fuel the whole human.

Simple doesn’t mean boring. And healthy doesn’t have to mean complicated. 🥬🥪🥣

Today’s lunch: tuna + lettuce on Dave’s Killer Bread with a bowl of Supergirl vegetable lentil soup.

Protein ✔️
Whole grains ✔️
Plenty of plants ✔️
Lunch made without turning meal prep into a second job. ✔️

Good nutrition is often less about finding the perfect meal and more about having simple, satisfying options you can repeat consistently.

Fuel. Move. Grow. 🌱💪
