Here are some snapshot metrics of CHS's Ann Arbor Meals on Wheels (AAMOW) in FY26. 340 volunteers provided 7,849 hours of their time, valued at $259,215, to deliver 135,183 meals to 477 clients (a 12% increase in meals and 7% increase in unduplicated clients compared to FY25). 98% of clients report that AAMOW services help them stay at home and live independently. 95% report that AAMOW helps them eat healthier. 95% report that AAMOW helps them feel safe and secure. 94% report that AAMOW helps them maintain or achieve a healthy weight. 93% report that their personal contact with AAMOW’s meal delivery staff/volunteers is important to them. 85% report that meals from AAMOW are their most important source of nutrition.

In the words of two AAMOW clients, "We appreciate your kindness very much. You have sent us love and warmth. Even though we face the challenges of aging and health issues, you make us feel truly cared for."

Michigan Medicine's Back to School Drive is still going strong and is being held for school-age children in the Washtenaw County area. Among the items needed are backpacks (noted as a significant need), calculators, pencil boxes/bags, loose leaf paper, mechanical pencils, etc. Hygiene products such as socks and underwear are also welcomed and in significant need.

Supplies can be purchased directly via our Amazon Wishlist (check the comments for the link), or supplies can also be dropped off at the North Campus Research Complex (2800 Plymouth Rd. Ann Arbor MI 48109) at Dock 90 along Huron Parkway, from now until Monday, September 7.

These efforts go a long way toward building bridges and connecting Michigan Medicine with the communities we are a part of and are privileged to serve.

Shout out to the Community Health Tent Team that put on an AMAZING showing last weekend at the annual Parkridge Community Center SummerFest! Even though it rained, the team spoke with and distributed information / resources to tons of folks in the community. They welcomed visitors who drove from as far away as Chicago to take part in health screenings & other family friendly activities.

A big thanks to the team of University of Michigan student volunteers & the 30+ Michigan Medicine program leads who braved the stormy weather to provide no cost health screenings, health education, and much more! We hope to see you all next year!

Finishing up our highlight of the Community Health Planning and Investment (CHPI) team volunteering at Hope Clinic, Lupe (black shirt) and A’Layna, (navy blue shirt) assisted with the Diaper Pantry distribution led by Hope Clinic volunteer Elaine (light blue shirt). A’Layna helped register clients and Lupe assembled the materials (diapers, wipes, baby formula and food, menstrual pads, vegetables, and other miscellaneous items). Together, they helped register and distribute materials to 18 clients!

Continuing our coverage of the CHPI team, Lupe and the FPHLP interns also volunteered at Hope Clinic’s Diaper Pantry, show by Hope Clinic volunteer Name (purple shirt in last picture). Frankie (left) and Ayesha (right) assisted with packing and assembling the diapers by size. They packed a total of 25 diaper bundles!

Lupe, MPH (black shirt) from the Community Health Planning and Investment (CHPI) team and the Future Public Health Leaders (FPHLP) interns Ayesha, A’Layna, and Frankie (left to right) visited Hope Clinic this summer. They were welcomed by Julie, LMSW (yellow shirt), Hope Clinic’s Behavioral Health Manager (yellow shirt) for a tour and Q&A session. There they were able to witness public health in action with Hope Clinic’s integrated care model.

At Michigan Medicine, we have an established history of generosity toward local communities. This month we are turning our attention towards supplying our kids with what they will need to go back to school.

At the Regional Alliance for Healthy Schools (RAHS), their Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) give students the opportunity to help shape health education programs and services for themselves and their peers at their school. YAC members share what's important to teens today, advocate for their peers, and help promote healthy choices throughout their school communities.

By listening to youth and partnering with them, RAHS is creating health services that are responsive, relevant, and centered around the needs of the students they serve.
