Have you ever wondered why your pain or stiffness keeps coming back after your chiropractic, massage, or even physical therapy appointment? It felt sooooooo good and then, back to where you were?

Manipulative treatment can be incredibly effective — especially in the short term.

But here’s what many people don’t realize 👇

Any passive treatment we perform — whether it’s manipulation, mobilization, myofascial release (MFR), or soft tissue work — will typically only provide temporary relief unless it’s combined with exercise.

If we passively release a tight muscle without retraining the brain and nervous system, that muscle will often return to its previous pattern:
⏳ At best: 2–4 hours of relief
⏳ At worst: 5–40 minutes

Why? Because pain and muscle tension are often driven by motor patterns stored in the brain.

That’s why exercise is such a critical part of what we do at Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy.

When we pair hands-on treatment with targeted corrective exercise:

We’ve all been there—something feels “off” in the body, so we zoom in on that one spot.

Pelvic floor symptoms? Strengthen the pelvic floor.
Back pain? Stretch the back.
Shoulder discomfort? Fix the shoulder.

But what if the problem isn’t just there?

The body doesn’t work in isolated parts—it works as a system. When one area isn’t doing its job well, another area often picks up the slack. That’s when symptoms start to show up.

Sometimes it’s not about weakness or tightness in one place, but about how well everything is working together:
✨ How pressure is managed
✨ How load is distributed
✨ How different parts move independently—and coordinate as a whole

🚫 If you leak urine when you cough, sneeze, laugh, or lift something… that is NOT normal. 🚫

It’s often blamed on aging or having babies, but urinary leakage usually means the pelvic floor and core muscles aren’t working properly.

Common causes include:
• Pelvic floor weakness
• Pelvic floor muscles that are too tight or not coordinating well
• Pregnancy or childbirth changes
• Hormonal changes (especially around menopause)
• Core weakness and poor pressure control

"Why won't my pain go away? I've tried chiropractic, acupuncture, physical therapy, and massage..." Sound familiar?

If you've tried all the above and still have pain, tension, stiffness....your fascia may be the missing link.

Your fascia is a fibroelastic suit, think about a thin tissue that literally surrounds EVERYTHING in your body from under your skin, to surrounding muscles, muscle fibers, veins, nerves, all the way to, and into the bone.

Now think about that fall you had, the small fender bender, the slight pull you felt reaching in the backseat, or the surgery you had when you were 20, or more recently, the fascia may have gotten bound down and stuck and your body adapted to it for all this time, until it can't. And now you have pain in your shoulder, your back, neck. Stretching doesn't stop it. The awesome massage you had lasted a day, the chiropractor adjustment felt great, for a week and the pain came back, or I have done all the exercises the physical therapist gave me and I still feel stiff. This may be due to the fascia!

This is where myofascial release comes in!
