Very proud be a part of the first baby-friendly hospital in the state,

RMC Women & Children's Pavilion Celebrates 15 Years of Excellence!🎉

In 2011, RMC Women & Children's became the very first "Baby Friendly USA" facility in the state of Alabama. 15 years later, RMC is excited to continue that level of care for our new mothers and miracles, as we are officially reaccredited as a Baby Friendly facility through 2031!

With over 1700 births annually, an emphasis on minimal intervention births, breastfeeding, and low-to-none separation times postpartum, RMC Labor & Delivery and Postpartum & Nursery Units are the gold standard for maternity care in Northeast Alabama.

Thank you to all of our OBGYNs, Pediatricians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, staff, and volunteers that make the maternity journey and the start of a new life an incredible experience for so many families each and every year!

Newborn Stomach Capacity

Day 1: 5–7 ml (0.1–0.2 oz) – about the size of a cherry
Day 3: 22–27 ml (0.8–1 oz) – about the size of a walnut
Week 1: 45–60 ml (1.5–2 oz) – about the size of an apricot
1 Month: 80–150 ml (2.5–5 oz) – about the size of a large egg
By one month, most lactating parents are producing close to the full amount of milk their baby will ever need.

Even as your baby grows, the total daily volume of milk stays about the same from one month onward. What does change is the feeding pattern—how often and how long your baby nurses may shift, but the overall intake remains steady.
