In recent years, a common piece of internet misinformation has claimed that a "corrosive parasite" blocks the pancreas and causes Type 2 diabetes. Medical experts have debunked this—there is no such parasite.

Here is the actual science behind what A1C is and why you might be seeing a connection to parasites in your research.

What Actually Causes High A1C?
A1C is a measurement of your average blood sugar over the last 2–3 months. When sugar enters your bloodstream, it sticks to a protein in your red blood cells called hemoglobin.

High A1C means you have had high blood sugar levels over time.

The Root Cause: This is typically caused by insulin resistance (the body not using insulin well) or a lack of insulin production, which are the hallmarks of prediabetes and diabetes.

Why People Get Confused About Parasites
While parasites do not cause A1C to rise directly, there are two reasons they often come up in this conversation:

Susceptibility: People with diabetes or high A1C often have weakened immune systems. This makes them more likely to catch parasitic infections, not the other way around.

Anemia Link: Some parasites (like hookworms) can cause iron-deficiency anemia. Because the A1C test relies on your red blood cells, having certain types of anemia can actually cause a falsely high A1C reading, even if your blood sugar is normal.

The "Japanese Secret" Scam: There are many viral videos claiming a "Japanese parasite cleanse" or "Japanese compound" can cure diabetes by killing parasites. These are predatory scams designed to sell unproven supplements.

And did you know...
Honey does not go bad. In fact, it's recognized as the only food that can last virtually forever and doesn't spoil. It will, however, crystallize (becoming thick and cloudy) over time. If this happens, just remove the lid from the jar, place it in a pan of water, and warm it over low heat until the honey returns to its original consistency. To keep honey from crystallizing prematurely, store it at room temperature. Storing honey in the refrigerator will cause it to crystallize rapidly, and isn't necessary since it doesn't go bad.
