“Okay… but can you show me why?”

You’re allowed to ask that before deciding on dental treatment. Sometimes seeing what your dentist sees makes the whole conversation easier to follow.

At Dr. Canzoneri’s Arcadia office, restorative planning brings different pieces together. Digital X-rays help assess areas we can’t see directly. An intraoral camera shows close-up details. TRIOS digital scans record tooth shapes and how your teeth meet.

Each adds information. Your exam, health history, and experience help give it meaning.

That includes the things a picture can’t tell us: you avoid chewing on one side, something feels different when you bite, or you want a repair that preserves the character of your smile.

The goal is care that supports your health and everyday life—from comfortable meals to feeling confident about your choices.

Before moving forward, ask:
“What are we seeing?”
“What are my options?”
“How does this fit my goals?”

Save this if seeing the reason helps you make decisions.

“I slept fine.”
Meanwhile, the person next to you has a few notes.

The snoring. The restless shifting. That pause that makes them listen a little closer… followed by a gasp.

A partner may notice things the sleeper never remembers. Those observations matter—but they don’t diagnose sleep apnea.

Snoring alone doesn’t confirm it. Repeated breathing pauses or gasping deserve a conversation with a healthcare professional, who may recommend a sleep study.

At Dr. Canzoneri’s Arcadia office, bring up what happens at night—even if your partner does most of the explaining. We can discuss the evaluation pathway and whether a custom oral appliance might be appropriate after diagnosis. It’s an option for selected people with obstructive sleep apnea, with follow-up to check how well it works.

The goal goes beyond a quieter bedroom. Sleep matters to your health, daytime energy, and ability to feel present with the people you love.

Try starting with: “I’ve noticed something about your breathing, and I’m concerned.”

Who notices the sleep problem first—the sleeper or the partner?

“I thought I was sleeping. My jaw apparently had other plans.”
You haven’t even had breakfast, and your jaw already feels like it’s worked a full shift. Maybe your temples feel tense. Maybe that first yawn isn’t comfortable.

Those details are worth mentioning—especially when they keep happening.

Morning jaw fatigue doesn’t automatically mean you grind your teeth or have TMD, the group of conditions affecting jaw joints and chewing muscles. Headaches and neck tightness can have other causes, too.

At Dr. Canzoneri’s Arcadia office, the conversation starts with your pattern: when symptoms appear, what makes them worse, and how they affect eating, opening your mouth, or getting through the day.

Depending on the evaluation, low-level laser therapy—called photobiomodulation—may be considered as one part of symptom management. Research continues to explore its role. It isn’t a universal cure, and results vary.

The goal? More comfortable everyday moments. Breakfast. Conversation. A yawn you don’t have to think about.

Which arrives first—jaw tension, headache or neck tightness?

“Laser” sounds like the dramatic part of the appointment.

But you’re probably wondering… will it vibrate? Will I need numbing? Can I eat normally afterward?

Fair questions. Much more useful than a futuristic name.

For suitable tooth treatments, Waterlase can reduce the drill-like vibration you feel. Dental lasers also have different uses for teeth and gums—from removing decay to precisely reshaping soft tissue. The procedure determines what the experience and recovery may involve.

And yes, numbing may still be needed. Your comfort deserves a conversation, not a blanket promise.

At our Arcadia, CA office, Dr. Canzoneri brings advanced laser training to care with BIOLASE technology. We start with what your mouth needs, then explain whether a laser makes sense for your treatment.

The goal is everyday wellbeing: caring for teeth and gums so eating, speaking, and keeping your mouth clean feel more manageable. The technology is one part of that care.

What would you want to ask before laser treatment?

The movie has barely started. Your tongue is already investigating that one tooth. 🍿

Same spot. Every time.

“Why does food keep getting stuck there?” is a perfectly good question to bring to your dentist—not something you need to figure out yourself.

At our Arcadia office, Dr. Canzoneri can check how the teeth meet, the edges of existing fillings or crowns, possible cracks, and changes around the gums. Food catching and a twinge when you bite can have different explanations. An exam helps us understand yours.

And please mention the little workarounds, too: chewing on the other side, skipping certain foods, or keeping floss beside the couch.

The goal isn’t just fixing a tooth. It’s helping you eat comfortably, enjoy a variety of foods, and get back to watching the movie instead of monitoring every bite.

What food always finds it first—popcorn, seeds, or something else?

The coffee order? Memorized.
The reason your teeth look darker? A little less obvious. ☕️

Coffee, tea, and red w**e can leave pigments on the surface of your teeth. A professional cleaning may help remove those stains—but not every shade change sits on the outside.

Some discoloration comes from within the tooth, and it may respond differently to whitening. That’s why “just use something stronger” isn’t always the answer.

Before recommending teeth whitening, Dr. Canzoneri checks what may be causing the discoloration and whether your teeth and gums are ready for it. Cleaning, whitening, and other treatments do different jobs.

Here in our Arcadia office, the conversation starts with your teeth and your goals—not a promise that everyone should reach the same shade.

Coffee, tea or red w**e—which one are you keeping? Tell us your pick. 👇

“I like my smile. It’s just this one little chip.”

That’s a perfectly reasonable place to start. You can want a repair and still love the shape, character, and familiar look of your teeth.

For some small chips, cosmetic bonding may be an option. Tooth-colored material is shaped to repair the area, with attention to how it blends with your smile.

First, Dr. Canzoneri checks the tooth, how your teeth meet, and what may have caused the chip. How the repair looks matters. So does how it works when you bite and chew.

Here in our Arcadia office, we want to hear both sides of the conversation: what’s bothering you—and what you’d like us to leave alone.

What would you want us to keep exactly the same? 💬

You’re sitting in the chair thinking about your teeth…

Meanwhile, your dental team may also be quietly looking at your lips, cheeks, tongue and the tissues around your mouth.

No dramatic moment. No scary-looking procedure. You might barely notice it happening.

A VELscope uses fluorescence visualization to provide another view of the oral tissues during an examination. It doesn’t diagnose oral cancer or replace a careful visual and tactile exam—but it may be used as one part of a more complete evaluation.

And if something looks different? That information is considered alongside the clinical examination to determine whether monitoring or further evaluation may be appropriate.

Did you know this could be part of a regular dental visit?

Sometimes the hardest part of a dental appointment isn’t the treatment.
It’s saying what you need without worrying that you’re being “difficult.”

Please explain what you’re doing.
Can we pause for a minute?
I’m embarrassed I waited this long.
Can we talk about comfort options?

These are not unreasonable requests. They’re useful information—and they help us understand how to care for you as a person, not just the teeth on the schedule.

Personalized care may include more communication, planned breaks, a slower pace or a conversation about oral conscious sedation when appropriate for your health history and treatment needs.

You don’t have to pretend you’re comfortable to be a “good” patient.

Send this gently to someone who keeps postponing care. 🤍

POV: the dentist asks what medications you take…and for a second you wonder if you accidentally walked into the wrong appointment. 😅

But your medication list can tell us something important about how to care for your mouth.

Some medications may reduce saliva, leaving the mouth feeling dry. Others can matter when we’re thinking about bleeding, healing or possible interactions with something prescribed during dental care.

And yes—supplements count too.

Prescription medications. Over-the-counter products. Vitamins. Herbal supplements. Even the one you only remember to take occasionally.

The goal is not to judge what you take or tell you to stop it. Please never change a medication without speaking with the healthcare professional who prescribed it. We simply need the full picture so treatment can be planned thoughtfully.

On World Pharmacists Day, we’re especially grateful for the pharmacists who help patients understand their medications, identify possible interactions and keep healthcare teams connected.

Do you keep an updated medication and supplement list in your phone…or are you rebuilding it from memory every time?
