This December, Dr Carrie Griffin is joining Mahshid Hager, LMFT and Joshua Sylvae, PHD in the pines of Idyllwild for four days of slowing down together. The Complexity & Consciousness Retreat is a gentle, supported space for ketamine journeys, reflection, and connection, held at each person’s own pace, with care for whatever comes up.

You may have heard of Spravato, but what exactly is it? Spravato (esketamine) is a prescription nasal spray used for certain adults with treatment-resistant depression. Unlike traditional antidepressants that are taken daily at home, Spravato is administered here in our office under the supervision of our clinical team. 🙏

We talk a lot about what the Spravato experience looks like at CNG, but sometimes it’s worth coming back to why this treatment exists in the first place: to offer another option when the usual path hasn’t been enough. For people who feel like they’ve tried option after option without finding the relief they hoped for, Spravato offers a different approach to depression treatment.

Grounded in Poetry is back next Monday, October 5th ✍️

Once a month, local poets Wil & Susanna Gibson guide a writing circle on self-reflection, growth, and the legacy we leave behind. We’ll use prompts to write through grief, hard things, and whatever’s stirring in our creative selves. Feedback if you want it, encouragement for everyone.

Finished pieces can be submitted to the next Swimming With Elephants anthology: When I Die. This workshop is free to register, $5–$25 donations welcome at the door! You can save your seat via the link in our bio. 🙂

Are you feeling the weight of climate change? If so, we have two spots left in our 10-week climate/polycrisis grief group, created by the Good Grief Network to help process the heavy emotions around the state of the world… grief, anxiety, and everything in between.

It’s a practice ground to build community, regulate your nervous system, witness and be witnessed, and learn how to show up for yourself, your community, and the world in deeper ways. The grief of the world is heavy, and we’re not meant to carry it alone!

Details: One spot is fully covered by insurance (Partnership Health Plan, Medi-Cal, or Carelon). The other spot is sliding scale, $350–550 for the ten weeks. This group starts next Tuesday, September 29th, 6:30–8:30pm at Center for New Growth (770 11th St, Arcata), so if you are interested, please reach out to [email protected] or give our office a call at (707) 267-7931.

Will is our Neuromodulation Coordinator here at Center for New Growth, bringing his B.S. in Cognitive Science from UC Santa Cruz and a genuine excitement for evidence-based mental health care! If you missed it, yes, we are now accepting patients for TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) therapy. This is a noninvasive therapy that supports mood, focus, and emotional regulation, as part of our broader neuromodulation offerings. Will is the one bringing steady, thoughtful care to every TMS appointment, and we are so happy to have him on board! 🙏

Relationships take work, and sometimes that work is easier with support. 💚 Our team offers couples therapy to help partners navigate conflict, rebuild communication, and reconnect. And if couples therapy isn’t quite what you need, we also offer individual therapy, somatic therapy, and child & adolescent therapy, plus more targeted approaches like EMDR and Internal Family Systems (IFS). Meet Katie 👋 Katie has been with Center for New Growth for over a year, and she has recently stepped into our Spravato Clinical Coordinator role, after previously serving as a Care Coordinator with us. She is so helpful, and takes care of a lot of the behind the scenes work.

In her words: “There are a lot of moving parts with Spravato, so my role is to make sure those pieces are coordinated and that nothing falls through the cracks. I’m the connection point between the patient, providers, therapists, pharmacy, and insurance company - my goal is to make the process as seamless as possible for the patient, while making sure the clinical team has what they need to provide consistent, coordinated care.” 💚

We get asked a lot: What is SPRAVATO® and how is it different from ketamine? So, let’s talk about it!

SPRAVATO® (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray for adults with treatment-resistant depression, and it’s related to ketamine, but not the same thing. Ketamine contains both parts of the ketamine molecule and can be given IV, IM, or sublingually. SPRAVATO® contains esketamine, just one part of that molecule, and is only administered as a nasal spray in certified treatment centers under a required monitoring program.

Both work on the brain’s glutamate system, but they’re regulated differently, and each may fit different needs. At Center for New Growth, we offer both so we can help you figure out which approach fits your goals, clinical needs, and insurance coverage.
