Not every bug bite is just a bug bite. Here is how to tell the difference between a normal reaction and something that needs attention.
Summer means more time outside, which means more encounters with insects that bite or sting. Most reactions are uncomfortable but harmless. Some are not. Knowing the difference matters.

One of the most common questions we get: what happens if I need hospital care?

As a Direct Primary Care practice, Blossom operates independently of a hospital system, which means Dr. Marabella’s clinical decisions are guided entirely by what is best for you. No institutional protocols dictating appointment length. No administrative layers between a question and an answer.

But when hospital care is needed, Blossom patients have access to two excellent options. Dr. Marabella is affiliated with Endeavor Health, formerly known as NCH, and Advocate Good Shepherd. Both are trusted regional health systems, and that affiliation means continuity of care when it matters most. Dr. Marabella can communicate directly with your care team, coordinate your transition, and follow up with you when you are discharged.

The independence of the practice model gives you a physician whose decisions are entirely patient-driven. The hospital affiliations give you the support of established systems when something more serious arises.
You get both.

One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime. And most of it is preventable.
Before you head outside this summer, here is what you actually need to know about sunscreen.
Choose broad spectrum. UVB causes burns. UVA penetrates deeper, causes premature aging, and contributes to skin cancer. Broad spectrum covers both. Anything less is not doing the full job.

SPF 30 is your floor, not your ceiling. SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB rays. SPF 50 blocks about 98%. The difference is smaller than the marketing suggests. What matters more is actually applying it and reapplying every two hours.
Water resistant is not waterproof. Reapply every time you get out of the water or sweat heavily. The label does not change that.

The spots most people miss:
Ears, back of the neck, tops of hands, lips, and the hairline. These areas account for a disproportionate number of skin cancer diagnoses.
Apply more than you think you need. Most people use about half the amount required for full protection.
The best skincare routine in the world does not compensate for skipping sunscreen. This one is worth getting right.

To the men reading this (or their partners): when did you last have a real conversation with your physician?
Not a quick visit for something specific. A real conversation about where you are, what your numbers look like, how you have been feeling, and what the next ten years of your health could look like if you pay attention now.

For a lot of men, that conversation has not happened. Not because the information is not available, but because nobody has made the time to have it.
Heart disease, metabolic dysfunction, hormonal shifts in midlife, elevated cancer risk: these are not inevitable. They are largely manageable when addressed early, by someone who actually knows your history.

Swipe through for what that conversation should cover.

June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. And the conversation around brain health deserves to start a lot earlier than most people think.
Cognitive decline is not something that happens suddenly. It develops over years, shaped by factors that are largely modifiable long before any symptoms appear. Cardiovascular health, metabolic function, sleep quality, chronic inflammation, and social connection all play measurable roles in how the brain ages.

Dr. Marabella talks about what the research actually shows, which lifestyle factors have the strongest evidence behind them, and why primary care is one of the most important places for this conversation to happen.
Watch through.

Pride Month is a good reminder that inclusive care is not a policy statement. It is a practice.
At Blossom, every patient is cared for with the same attention, the same respect, and the same commitment to understanding their full picture. That does not change based on who they are or who they love.
Happy Pride Month.

Everyone talks about starting a GLP-1 and what comes along with it. The appetite changes, the results, the shift in how your body responds. But, what doesn’t come up as often is what you should actually be eating while you’re on one. And it matters more than most people realize.

When your appetite is significantly reduced, every bite has to work harder. Eat the wrong things (or not enough of the right ones) and you risk losing muscle instead of fat, missing critical nutrients, and feeling worse than you should on a medication designed to help you feel better.

Swipe through to see a framework for eating in a way that actually supports what the medication is trying to do and make sure to save it for later.
