Our team is excited and honored to get started on this historic project! 🏫

Old Bedford School has served generations of Bedford residents, and now, the City is preparing this historic landmark for its next chapter. 🏫

On Tuesday, the Bedford City Council unanimously approved a $1.2 million contract with Morales Construction and LBL Architects to begin designing and renovating the building as a functional community and cultural arts space.

Planned improvements include:
• Renovated ADA-accessible restrooms
• A warming kitchen to support events
• A more functional interior layout
• Restoration of historic woodwork and architectural features
• Updated lighting, mechanical, security and fire alarm systems
• Exterior masonry, window and structural repairs

The project will be funded through Hotel Occupancy Tax revenue, which comes from taxes paid by guests staying in Bedford hotels. State law limits how this revenue may be used, and it cannot be used for general City operations. This project will use the funds to preserve a historic City asset and support cultural arts, events and activities that can attract visitors to Bedford.

The design process is expected to take approximately three months, followed by an estimated six months of construction. Throughout the process, City staff will continue working with the City Council as the final design, project scope and plans for operating the facility are developed. Staff will also engage with local arts and theater groups to help shape future programming, rental policies and uses for the space. Staff will provide an update during a Council meeting, once this step is finished.

Once complete, Old Bedford School will return to active use as a more flexible and welcoming space for community events and cultural arts programming while preserving the character that makes it such an important part of Bedford’s story.

The City will continue to post updates about the future use of Old Bedford School, as the project moves forward. Learn more about the history of Old Bedford School: www.bedfordtx.gov/obs.

From concept to completion. ✅

A rendering is more than just a visualization, it's a promise of what's to come. These side-by-side comparisons show how closely our designs become reality.

The best projects come from Listening first, Building thoughtfully, and Leading with integrity, from the first rendering to the finished space.

Did you know? 👀

As Arlington celebrates 150 years, here’s a fun piece of downtown history! LBL designed the Tarrant County Southeast Sub-Courthouse, which was the FIRST building designed under the City’s new Downtown Design Standards, helping set the vision for a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly downtown. The project also earned LEED Silver Certification for its sustainable design. We’re proud to have played a part in shaping the Arlington we know and love today! 💙❤️🤍
