Chemical mutagens cause permanent changes to DNA. Not temporary damage — permanent mutations. In germ cells, those changes can be inherited by future generations. Under CLP, Category 1A and 1B germ cell mutagens carry the H340 hazard statement. Under REACH, they can qualify as SVHCs. And unlike some hazards, the consequences of getting this wrong aren't easily undone.
