This week, we’re recognizing the Community Health Workers who help connect people to care, resources, and support in their communities.
DPC is proud to have led a coalition in developing the nation’s first Community Health Worker training curriculum focused on Chronic Kidney Disease.
Developed in partnership with the Illinois Public Health Association, National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, the National Kidney Foundation, Black K.A.R.E., and the University of Illinois, the curriculum gives CHWs the tools to better understand kidney disease and support the people they serve.
We’re proud to lead this important work and help bring greater kidney disease awareness into communities across the country.

For more than 30 years, DPC Board Member Alethea Walls has relied on dialysis to stay alive—and she says that despite some advancements in technology, dialysis has not changed nearly enough. She is also concerned that even when there is innovation like the new hemodiafiltration machine approved earlier this year, patients like her may not be able to gain access due to the lack of payment/coverage for these new therapies.
When innovation lags, patients pay the price. Investing in dialysis innovation could mean improved health outcomes, a better quality of life, and more time living for people who lost their kidney function.
That’s why DPC is calling on Congress to pass the Kidney Care Access Protection Act (KCAPA) - S. 2730 / H.R. 6214. This bipartisan legislation will help to improve care for dialysis patients, increase their access to new and innovative therapies, address ongoing staffing shortages, and ensure patients continue to receive the care they depend on.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Arthur L. Hill, a beloved member of the Dialysis Patient Citizens family and a dedicated member of our Board of Directors.
Arthur was a passionate healthcare advocate and a powerful voice for dialysis patients. His commitment to improving others' lives was evident in his advocacy at DPC and in his home state of Indiana. Arthur was instrumental in passing Indiana Senate Bill 125 (Public Law 28-2024), landmark legislation that reduced monthly Medigap premiums for dialysis patients under 65 and helped make healthcare more accessible and affordable for those who need it most.
Arthur brought that same passion, compassion, and dedication to his work with DPC. He was a valued Board member, a committed advocate, and a friend to so many in the kidney community. We are incredibly grateful for his service and for the lasting difference he made in the lives of dialysis patients.
Our heartfelt condolences are with Arthur’s family, friends, fellow advocates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Rest in peace, Arthur. Your advocacy, your leadership, and your commitment to the kidney community will not be forgotten. You will be deeply missed.
