Congratulations to Texas Health Plano for earning the DNV Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification for the third consecutive time. Hospitals with this designation have established care teams to diagnose and treat stroke patients requiring acute intensive medical and surgical care, specialized testing, or interventional therapies.

“Our specialized care team provides the most critically ill patients with advanced stroke therapies, and this certification demonstrates our hard work being recognized consistently on a national level,” said Jacob Tanel, M.S.N., APRN, AGACNP-BC, Texas Health Plano’s Orthopedic Surgery and Neurosciences director. “Above all else, we are truly invested in striving to provide high-quality care to every North Texan and maintaining a lifelong connection with our community.”

Did you know Texas Health has a program designed to encourage direct care nurses to become expert clinicians? It's called NCAP (Nursing Career Advancement Program). NCAP provides an opportunity for nurses to increase their compensation and recognition without leaving the bedside. Nurses advance in the program through educational, clinical and professional activities. Hear from Vallye Brooks, B.S.N., RN-BC, the chair of the Nursing Career Advancement Program (NCAP) Committee and Level V NCAP nurse who works in outpatient surgery at Texas Health Denton, on how she was determined to grow professionally when she joined NCAP 15 years ago.

“I needed to push myself and have some personal accomplishments,” she said. “Going back to school was not an option at the time, so I joined NCAP and got my certification.” To advance in NCAP, Vallye has participated in activities such as traveling to the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Maryland to develop new testing for nursing certification, providing in-services on her unit and serving as a clinical resource.
