7 layers of cut during CS
1. Skin: The initial incision, usually a horizontal (Pfannenstiel) cut.
2. Subcutaneous Fat (Camper’s and Scarpa’s fascia): Fatty, connective tissue beneath the skin.
3. Fascia (Re**us Sheath): Strong connective tissue covering the abdominal muscles.
4. Abdominal Muscles (Re**us Abdominis): These are generally separated vertically, not cut, to avoid damaging the "six-pack" muscles.
5. Peritoneum: The thin membrane lining the abdominal cavity.
6. Uterus (Uterine Wall): The muscular organ is incised, usually with a low transverse incision.
7. Amniotic Sac: The membrane surrounding the baby, which is ruptured to allow delivery.
Note: The bladder is also pushed down and protected with a retractor, rather than cut, during the surgery.... More reason you must be on catheter during C'S to empty the bladder and avoid full bladder.
