Did you know there are two completely different ways to perform a shoulder replacement?
Dr. Adam Pickett breaks down the key differences between Anatomic and Reverse Shoulder Replacement:

Anatomic Replacement: Mimics your natural anatomy by placing a new socket on the shoulder blade and a ball on the arm bone. This is ideal for patients with severe arthritis who still have an intact rotator cuff.

Reverse Replacement: Reverses the joint position by putting the ball on the shoulder blade and the socket on the arm bone. This bypasses a torn rotator cuff and allows the deltoid muscle to lift the arm.

This procedure restores shoulder function and mobility, giving patients their quality of life back even when they thought all hope was lost.

Did your shoulder MRI report mention a rotator cuff tear? Before you panic, there is something you should know.

Dr. Adam Pickett explains why seeing a tear on paper does not automatically mean you need surgery. Tendons act much like ropes that wear down over time. A partial tear is often just fraying that responds well to non-surgical treatment, whereas a complete tear is a full break in the rope that usually requires surgical repair.

Stop stressing over your MRI results and let our team build a personalized plan for your shoulder.

Call Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic at (703) 892-6500 to schedule your evaluation.

How can overhead athletes protect their elbow from a Tommy John injury?

Dr. Sameer Nagda explains that protecting your ulnar collateral ligament actually starts with your hips and core. When pitchers and throwers generate power through their entire kinetic chain, it takes the burden off the arm and dramatically reduces stress on the elbow joint. Paired with age appropriate pitch count guidelines, proper body mechanics are an athlete's best defense against a serious elbow tear.

Call Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic at (703) 892-6500 to schedule an evaluation with a sports medicine specialist.
