What is Psychedelic Integration?
People are hearing about the benefits of psychedelic medicines such as Psilocybin, M**A, Ketamine, 5-MEO-DMT, Ayahuasca, and other natural plant medicines and pharmaceuticals for healing depression, anxiety, existential fears, trauma and PTSD and more.
Researchers at Johns Hopkins University and other respected research institutions are publishing study after study about the potential benefits of these medicines.
Individuals who have never considered recreational drug use are having transformational and life-changing experiences around the world and in their own homes, as well as in clinics and therapeutic settings. We’ve heard so much about how psychedelics are helping veterans recover from unrelenting PTSD. The research is very exciting!
But there's something else that isn't spoken about as often as the benefits of psychedelics. What happens when the traumatic material which was kept safely detached from ordinary awareness comes flooding into a psychedelic experience and it overwhelms your nervous system’s capacity to cope?
Or maybe the psychedelic experience was amazing, and a few days or weeks later, you find yourself stuck in thought loops - re-experiencing feelings of powerlessness, hopelessness, terror, horror that won’t go away?
This is when you need a trauma specialist with deep experience in trauma therapy, somatic and integrative methods.
BA Healing, founded by Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, who is known internationally as the host of Therapy Chat Podcast with Laura Reagan, LCSWC and Trauma Therapist Network, has been a trusted, locally-owned source of trauma and attachment focused psychotherapy offering a combination of top down and bottom-up methods since 2013.
When you’ve had the psychedelic journey and you want to integrate the experience, all of the great and not-so-great things you learned about yourself - is a great time to do psychedelic integration work too.
Maybe nothing overtly traumatic came up - psychedelic journeys are meant to shake things up - but if the experience is destabilizing, you don’t have to be alone with it. You can integrate that material into your life in a way that feels safer, and eventually maybe even find something valuable in the muck.
We are proud to announce publicly that we’re now offering Psychedelic Integration at BA Healing! There’s a lot of confusion about what Psychedelic Integration is. It’s not the same as Psychedelic Assisted Psychotherapy, which is also something we are offering on a limited basis.
Anna Marie Pemberton, LCPC, PMH-C; Tanory Ateek, LCSW-C, RYT-200; and practice founder Laura Reagan, LCSW-C, TCYM have training and experience in psychedelic integration work and psychedelic facilitation.
We are continuing to develop our experience and skill in psychedelic integration and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy through ongoing training and consultation.
We are now accepting referrals from PAP therapists who aren’t specialized in trauma and attachment work for adjunct psychedelic integration in hourly and intensive therapy session formats.
And if you’re someone who has had a psychedelic experience that you need support in integrating, we’d love to help!
