🌸 Why Spring Makes You Feel Irritable (And What to Do About It)

Spring has arrived, the flowers are blooming, the sun is shining, and nature is bursting with energy.
So why do you feel tense, moody, and stuck?

In Chinese medicine, spring is Liver season, a time when your body's vital energy (Qi) naturally wants to expand and flow upward. When that energy flows smoothly, you feel motivated, flexible, and emotionally balanced.

But when Liver Qi gets stuck (stagnation), you experience:
❌ Tension headaches & migraines
❌ Muscle tightness (especially neck & shoulders)
❌ Digestive issues & bloating
❌ Irritability & mood swings
❌ Feeling emotionally or mentally "stuck"
❌ PMS symptoms

Sound familiar?
5 Ways to Support Healthy Liver Qi:
🌿 Move your body daily (walking, yoga, stretching)
🍵 Drink herbal teas (rose, peppermint, dandelion)
🥬 Eat seasonal greens (kale, arugula, asparagus)
☕ Reduce caffeine & alcohol
💆 Get acupuncture (the most effective tool for moving stagnant Qi)

Spring doesn't have to feel like a struggle. With the right support, you can shift from stagnation to vibrant, flowing energy.

New research continues exploring how acupuncture may support the nervous system and inflammatory pathways involved in migraine activity.

A 2026 study examining the CXCL13 inflammatory pathway found electroacupuncture was associated with reduced inflammatory signaling, decreased migraine-related responses, and improved nervous system regulation.

While research is still evolving, studies like this help deepen our understanding of how acupuncture may support the body beyond symptom management alone.

At South Slope, we believe in blending traditional medicine with modern research to create personalized care for the whole person.

Study referenced:
“Electroacupuncture alleviates migraine through CXCL13/CXCR5-mediated communication” published in Chinese Medicine (2026).

If you feel like your body is constantly reacting to everything, you’re not alone 🤍

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) is a holistic approach designed to help support the body by calming hypersensitive responses and supporting nervous system regulation through techniques like acupuncture, acupressure, and energy balancing.

Many people seek out NAET for support with:
• Seasonal allergies
• Food sensitivities
• Chronic congestion
• Fatigue
• Digestive discomfort
• Headaches
• Skin irritation
• Environmental sensitivities

Healing isn’t always about “fighting” symptoms. Sometimes it’s about helping the body feel safe, supported, and balanced again ✨

If I could have a real superpower, it would be the ability to lift pain from anyone carrying it.

Funny enough, that is most of what I do every day.

Chronic pain is rarely just physical. Your nervous system does not draw a hard line between a stubbed toe and a broken heart, between a tight deadline and a tight jaw. In Chinese medicine, this is exactly what we mean when we talk about Liver Qi.

I wrote a new piece on how stress, nutrition, and acupuncture work together for lasting pain relief, with research to back it up.

Migraines are far more than “just a headache.”

They can affect sleep, stress levels, focus, nervous system regulation, and overall quality of life.

A recent 2025 systematic review analyzed 23 randomized controlled trials involving more than 2,200 patients and found acupuncture was associated with:
• Fewer migraine days
• Reduced migraine duration
• Improved quality of life outcomes

What makes this especially interesting is the direction acupuncture research is moving. Newer studies are becoming more rigorous with:

Better placebo controls
Larger patient groups
More standardized methods
Neurology-focused and brain imaging research

While no treatment is one-size-fits-all, it’s encouraging to see growing evidence supporting acupuncture as part of a comprehensive migraine care plan.

If migraines have been affecting your daily life, our team at South Slope Acupuncture & Wellness
would love to help you explore your options 🤍
