Recovery, for me, has never been about reaching some perfect place where I love my body every day and never have another diet thought again.

It’s been about making those thoughts matter less.

They can show up without deciding what I eat. They can show up without changing my plans. They can show up without becoming something I need to fix.

That’s the freedom I care about.

Not perfect body image. Not perfect eating. Just a whole lot less power given to the noise.

Yay for my 3rd solo hike! 🦋

It was Felicity’s turn to come along and I choose a nice loop with 2 waterfalls. I've been choosing waterfall hikes because of the summer heat and I know the dogs love the water!

We hiked about a mile without seeing anyone then saw maybe 10-15 total people within 0.5 miles of the waterfall (but managed to have the waterfall to ourselves!).

After that, we didn't see anyone for 3-4 miles. That's the longest I've gone so far while solo hiking!

Typically, I'd love to see absolutely no one on the trail when I'm hiking with my husband, but it's kind of reassuring to see a handful of people when I'm by myself.

With that said, the 3-4 miles by myself were both soothing and unnerving. The trail took us deeper into the woods. NC has dense forests and it was so quiet. We did big chunks of trails between creek crossings, so there wasn't even water noise for most of it.

Like Bill Bryson said, "Everything sounds big in the woods." And boy is he right. A squirrel sounds like a bear. A bird sounds like someone coming up behind you.

I had a couple minutes of asking myself, "Why am I out here alone?!" But overall, I kept a level head and enjoyed myself.

Until next time!! 🦋

5 things I don’t do as an anti-diet dietitian 👇🏻

🥑 I don’t label foods as “good” or “bad.”

Food doesn’t need moral value attached to it.

🥑 I don’t assume someone’s health based on their body size.

You cannot determine someone’s health status based on their outward appearance.

🥑 I don’t expect anyone to eat “perfectly.”

Nutrition doesn’t have to be optimized at every meal, every single day for you to live a healthy life.

🥑 I don’t encourage unsustainable habits in the name of weight loss.

I’m not about adopting habits for the sake of weight loss. I’m all about sustainable, health promoting habits that are beneficial to the body independent of weight.

🥑 I don’t think convenience foods are a failure.

Convenience foods can be an incredibly helpful way to make eating easier, especially when time, energy, or access is limited. Nourishment doesn’t have to be made from scratch to count.

And you don't have to do these things either!! ❤️
