Starting Jan. 1, 2027, most adults ages 19 through 64 will need to renew Medicaid twice a year. Your local DSS will send you a notice when it is time to renew. Make sure DSS has your current address and answer letters right away. Visit medicaid.nc.gov/changes

WNCCHS was proud to sponsor and participate in this year’s Culturas Unidas Festival in downtown Marion!

Our WNCCHS McDowell Health Center team joined community organizations, local vendors and families on Sept. 12 for an afternoon celebrating Latino culture, diversity and community. Staff spent the day connecting with festivalgoers and sharing information about WNCCHS health care services and resources available in McDowell County.

Thank you to Centro Unido for bringing our community together for such a vibrant celebration. We were glad to be part of it!

: Last month, WNCCHS providers Dr. Jennifer Abbott and Emily Mase, FNP-C, participated in the 4th Annual Mental Health Matters 5K Walk/Run for Awareness at UNC Asheville.

Hosted by All Souls Counseling Center, the event brought our community together to raise awareness, encourage open conversations about mental health and support access to affordable counseling services across Western North Carolina.

At the end of August, WNCCHS joined community partners for McDowell County Overdose Awareness Day on the McDowell County Courthouse lawn.

Brenda Hicks, Community Health Worker with WNCCHS McDowell Health Center, represented WNCCHS at the event, sharing information about health care services and resources available in our community.

The evening brought people together to remember lives lost to overdose, raise awareness, reduce stigma and connect individuals and families with support.
