We are so excited to welcome back our series of workshops!

Starting spooky season off strong on October 20th with Marc N. Williams speaking on the poisonous plant path.
4pm to 6pm

We expect this class to sell out so please reserve your spot early!

Southern Appalachia is home to over 2,500 species of plants. Relatively few, but some that are common and maybe even beautiful, can be harmful if ingested or even touched. What plants to look out for specifically and what patterns to pay attention to even if you don’t know a plant’s certain identity will be a primary focus of this class.

We will explore together the representative plant families harboring poisonous plants regionally with representative pictures and literature for further analysis. We will also discuss how some plants that are potentially toxic are used in crafts and jewelry and even internal medicine for better or worse. A dialogue will ensue about how some poisonous plants also have long legacies in the realm of emotional, spiritual and in particularly shamanistic practices around the world.

This is an important class for anyone who loves to explore the human plant interface scientifically and especially for those who have or work with small children and plants simultaneously.

Our hearts go out to Central Nepal and Tibet's Gyirong County, where a catastrophic flash flood from glacial melt has taken nearly 800 hundred lives, with thousands still missing.

It hits close to home with the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Helene fast approaching. We know that recovery will take decades from this terrible event and a lifetime of healing from the trauma.

We wish peace and comfort to all those affected by this tragedy.

For those wanting to help, the link below is the direct website to the Nepalese government for disaster relief. Donations to this platform will go towards the recovery of the affected regions in Nepal.

Great weather for hiking and plant walks for the next couple of days. We have some locally crafted products to help keep y'all safe while you're out n' about.

Red Moon Herbs "Bug-A-Boo" spray helps keep the skeeters off, not to mention ticks, no-see-ums, and biting flies. Made with all natural ingredients and essential oils. Btw: Ticks are terrible this year, please take whatever precautions you can!

If you happen to already have some bug bites, or you rolled in a patch of Sister Ivy, Red Moon Herbs "Poison Ivy Spray" made with fresh plantain and jewelweed brings soothing relief to irritation.

Rocking it out in the sun? Roots And Leaves has an incredible sunscreen. Coral Reef Safe, UVA & UVB broad spectrum protection, and all natural ingredients. One of our staff who easily burns tested it out, walking around for hours in the sun, no burns. 🥰 It's also safe for sensitive skin. ✨️

You can find all of these products plus some plant identification books in our store in downtown Asheville.

Stay safe on y'all's summer adventures! ☀️🏕
