MAKE YOUR GARDEN INHOSPITABLE TO TICKS

American beautyberry: One of the most studied natural tick repellents. Leaves contain compounds comparable to DEET in some studies.

These plants work because ticks rely heavily on sensing hosts through smell and CO₂:

Catnip: contains a compound called nepetalactone, and it actually repels insects by interfering with how they find you.

Lavender: Contains linalool- shown to repel ticks and insects.

Rosemary: Strong camphoraceous oils; great along borders and pathways.

Lemon balm: High in citronellal — similar to citronella.

Mint: Potent, but spreads aggressively (best in contained zones).

Thyme: Especially creeping thyme — excellent as a ground cover where ticks would otherwise climb

Sage: Strong scent + dry leaf structure = less hospitable environment.

Garlic: Sulfur compounds repel ticks; also works systemically in soil.
