My Journey-a vulnerable share that I hope inspires
For so long, I have kept things inside for fear of people judging me, for fear of losing the hard-earned (but soul-sucking) life I had created around me.
Yet, over the years I have learned that every time I have the courage to be myself and to take chances on behalf of my desires, I inspire others to do the same.
So, here I share an overview of my journey from being a pharmacist in our sickcare system (because healthcare is a misnomer), and feeling shackled by the golden handcuffs that society lauded me for, and following my heart to becoming a relationship coach.
In it, I share what happened when I gave up my dream nearly 30 years ago, and how I am revisiting my desires now. I share my deep appreciation for sexual trauma integration and how it has helped me make sense of so many years of feeling alone and crazy because my nervous system was going haywire from unresolved trauma. Since then, I have an incredible amount of compassion, personal power and agency, .....and I am still learning and healing.
In culmination, I have a deep desire for women who have been sexually assaulted to get sexual trauma integration help so that they can lead an integrated life and learn to trust their nervous system.
I also know in my core that nervous system health and resiliency is the root of true health. Our nervous system is wired for connection. Those wires can and do get crossed in relationship, and therefore go haywire the most in intimate (or high stakes) relationships. That also means relationship is where the healing happens.
I am dedicated to understanding and navigating my nervous system and helping others do the same, so that we can live the lives our soul intended, so we can be the fullest expression of ourselves and bring joy to ourselves and others. Because living according to our own unique and personal truth is what we are here to do and where we bring the most joy and healing to those around us.
I invite you to watch this, and if it resonates with you or inspires you in any way, please let me know. If you feel it would inspire someone else in some way or support them, please share it with them.
If you:
- feel stuck in a job that doesn't allow your full expression
- feel you can't be all of yourself in your job, family, or social circle(s)
- woke up to your own trauma with the movement, but didn't know what to do with that information
- have ever felt hijacked by your emotions and nervous system and had no clue how to see it coming nor how to manage it
- understand that relationships are places of healing, and realize you could use help in that arena (either individually or as a couple, or both)...

📊 DATA 📊

This is a follow-up to my post on Science.

Data is NOT science.⛔

Raw data is just that. It’s pieces of a puzzle. 🧩
You could think of data pieces like Lego blocks.

Data is how we present scientific research, and it’s an ART.

There are numerous ways you can present data. Usually, a scientist/analyst will present data in a way that shows their point, much like people will present their knowledge in a way that proves their point.

🤔 Having some data making something seem true doesn’t make that thing true.📈

🤔 Having no data doesn’t make something not true.📉

🤔Having large amounts of data, while leaving out other parts of the story, isn’t good data.

When I am presented with data, I look for the holes in the story.

WHY❓

Because I know how easily it can be skewed.
I know that people’s jobs and careers depend on positive findings.

Did you know that we are still missing a lot of the negative findings in the scientific literature? Those are critical to know!

Confirmation bias is a real thing.
It’s human to see one thing that confirms what we want to believe, especially during a time when so much is uncertain, and freedom seemingly hangs in the midst.

Resorting to our confirmation bias in life and love doesn’t help us understand each other.
It polarizes people.

TRUTH BOMB 💣

As I mentioned, I have done plenty of research, both qualitative and quantitative.
When I conducted research on dendritic cells (SO COOL!), we would have cell plots.
I could move the area I considered within the cell plot to get a “better” plot of data.

In other words, I could present part of the picture that proved my point and exclude other parts.🤯

Read that one again.⬆️

I wasn’t lying, but I wasn’t telling the whole truth. It was simply part of the truth.

When you hear or see data, when someone presents their view, when you present your view, are you able to see confirmation bias? Are you able to ask pertinent questions to get to the bigger picture?

Curiosity is necessary for this.
Curiosity requires some amount of feeling safe in the world.(cont’d in comments)

When our sympathetic nervous system is activated, our view becomes narrow, and it’s harder to see the bigger picture.
How curious are you able and willing to be?

If you find yourself in the grips of polarization, if your work and/or personal relationships are suffering right now, I can help you find center.

I can help you discern what is TRUE. For YOU.

And from there, I can help you own your truth, and live it, and THAT is freedom.

DM and/or comment if this resonates with you.

I see and hear a lot of people preaching about Science, and how science does not lie.

Science is not something that one can put blind faith in.

Science is a process, an act, and an art that is performed by humans.

Laws of nature we can have faith in, such as gravity existing, the day and night alternating according to our planetary position and spin, etc. We learned these through the PROCESS of science.

SCIENCE definition: the intellectual and practical activity encompassing the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. (via Google)

Since humans are behind all science experiments, they are all only as perfect as the imperfect human(s) designing, conducting and analyzing the data gleaned from research.

We see the world through our lens(es), through our biases, our ego, and there is always some agenda with science. It's part of the party.

A little known fact:
I used to do a LOT of research. I spent years in labs designing, performing and analyzing quantitative research.

I have messed up on my research design.
I have messed up on my methods.
I was an undergrad for much of that.
So much of the actual research is done by undergrads and graduates.
When I messed up, I told people. Not everyone does.

Sometimes it's obvious. Sometimes it isn't.

***TRUTH ALERT: I was left largely to my own devices for alot of my research. I presented positive findings to a prominent researcher in our university, who was very excited. I was stoked to make him happy.
I soon realized I had sliced the sample incorrectly, and that anyone who knew the method would know that my work was faulty, and I asked him to NOT publish the work. Well, it "proved" his point, so he published, and it made it through peer review. It should never have made it into print!
The results were BUNK.

SPOILER ALERT FOR ANYONE WHO PRAISES THE SCIENCE GOD:
Research is conducted with funds. Those funds provide jobs to people. Positive outcomes means increased grant funds, which means the person who runs the lab can continue their career.

I just got back from the first annual in Puerto Rico. Some tidbits I learned:
1. Learn to Teach
2. Stretch yourself consistently

So, I have made a lofty goal of reading: ** 1 book every 3 weeks for a year**

As I jump into life as a Relationship Coach, I want to combine all I have learned in my Functional Medicine Fellowship and years of somatic inquiry, and really dive into weaving those together for myself and clients.

AND, I am inviting you to join me! I am hosting a book club EVERY SUNDAY starting June 6th. 😎

We will cover one of the books in this picture every 3 weeks, so if you don't want to do one of the books, check out the next 3 week session.
They are books on:
* Trauma
* Somatics
* Polyvagal Theory
* Mind-Body connections
* Brain Health
* Leadership and Business
* Healthy Genes

Interested? DM me with the word "IMBODIED" and I'll give you next steps to join in the fun.

💔💛TRAUMA💛💔
My own trauma
Collective trauma
It's real
It's pervasive, unavoidable
As I look toward my Relationship Coach certification in May, I'm thinking of the direction to take that, and of course I'll bring in prior trainings....
AND
Trauma study..
Is where I need to focus
For myself
For others
Which book should I start with?

7 MONTHS TO GET PSYCHOLOGICAL CRISIS HELP??!!
🤬 I AM LIVID 🤬
Someone extremely important to me was suicidal in August 2020 and went in for inpatient psych help and was denied. Instead, they were offered virtual partial inpatient intervention, and told to watch their email.............
No calls........
No email....
Finally, 7 months later, they are:
1. Thankfully, still alive 🙏
2. Finally in the 2 week program 🙌
How on earth do we have a system that touts mental health coverage, but drops the most vulnerable? 🤔
How is Medicaid, which receives federal funding💸, which comes from our tax dollars, able to get away with this bu****it?
How many other people are in the same or worse boat? ❓
How is it we have companies that are given the responsibility and money and power to help people are allowed to:
- ghost patients
- make patients do all the work of coordinating (ever been suicidal? Pretty hard to function)
- not have to report how many fatalities could be due to their negligence ⚰
I don't know what to do, except to call BU****IT on a system that's supposed to help the most underserved, but doesn't.
Our mental health is our most vital asset. We know from the ACES study that the greatest predictor of health outcomes is childhood trauma. Do you think it stops at childhood? Do you think that disadvantaged people on Medicaid have disproportionately high ACES scores? That maybe they need higher levels of mental health intervention, not ghosting?
This person I speak of reached out in crisis and felt:
- Unimportant
- Ignored
- Dropped...........
By a mental health provider paid for by your tax dollars.
I AM LIVID
